Capo Galera Diving Center

Capo Galera Diving Center is situated on a scenic peninsula within the Alghero gulf, surrounded by Mediterranean maquis. The centre operates from 'The Dutchman Villa', a white building perched on the cliffs, offering a direct connection to the marine environment of northern Sardinia.

The location is perfectly positioned for exploring the dramatic limestone promontories of Capo Galera, Punta Giglio, and Capo Caccia. From the centre, you are only a short drive from Alghero, making it easy to combine technical diving with the cultural history of the region.

As a PADI 5 Star Dive Resort, the centre is managed by Gaddo Risso and a team of professional guides. The staff are well-versed in the local topography, ensuring they can navigate the numerous crevasses, swim-throughs, and cave systems that define this coastline.

Instruction is available in both Italian and English. The centre caters to a wide range of divers, providing structured programmes for those starting their journey with Discover Scuba Diving through to professional development for Divemasters.

The centre offers a comprehensive curriculum of PADI courses. For those new to the water, training begins with Discover Scuba Diving, Scuba Diver, and Open Water Diver, progressing through Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver.

Specialised training is a core part of the centre's offering, with courses including Nitrox, Cavern Diver, Deep Diver, and Dry Suit Diver. Divers looking to refine their skills can also take Peak Performance Buoyancy or Fish Identification courses. Professional pathways are available for those aiming for the Divemaster level.

The fleet consists of three vessels to accommodate different diving needs. The Patrizia, a 13-metre Aprea Mare, serves as the primary boat for larger groups, while two Lomac semi-rigid boats, measuring 10 metres and 7 metres, provide more agile options for reaching sites.

The boats have a combined capacity for up to 20 divers. Nitrox is available on board for those looking to extend their bottom times during wall or cave explorations.

The centre maintains a high standard of shore-based facilities, including an elevator that assists in transporting cylinders and heavy equipment from the centre down to the quay. Three compressors are on site, providing a 44-cubic-metre capacity with an intermediate tank system to ensure consistent air quality.

Full kit hire is available, featuring Mares equipment. You can rent complete sets including BCDs, regulators, wetsuits, and fins, as well as specialised items like drysuits, torches, and digital cameras. Note that dive computers and masks are not included in the standard rental sets.

The marine life around the Alghero cliffs is diverse, particularly along the limestone walls and within the many underwater caverns. You will regularly encounter large groupers, various species of moray eels, and schools of great barracuda cruising the currents.

Crustaceans are abundant throughout the area. Divers can find many species of lobster and various other crustaceans tucked into the rock fissures and crevices of the reef.

The seabed is often covered in lush seagrass meadows and vibrant fixed life, including red coral and parazoanthus. These habitats support a wide variety of colourful fish that inhabit the many ravines and underwater passages.

The centre operates from April to October, which is the most favourable period for diving in the area. The coastline is characterised by dramatic drop-offs and limestone cliffs, where the seabed can descend to 300 metres.

While the area is known for its varied topography, divers should be prepared for the different environments encountered, from shallow, light-filled caves to deeper wall dives and siphon passages.
