Hotel Oasis

Hotel Oasis is a beach-oriented base in Alghero for a holiday that does not require a timetable pinned to the wall. You have an outdoor pool, a restaurant, two bars and a shaded route through the woods to a private beach where guests receive discounts. That gives you room for a proper swim, a cold drink or a quiet hour outside the water altogether.

The atmosphere is geared to mixed-age stays rather than a dedicated divers' retreat. Families have a playground, a games room and a children's pool, while couples can use the terrace, garden and nearby beaches as their own escape from the more active parts of the hotel. Four-star on paper, but the useful distinction here is simpler: you can eat on site, reach the beach easily and get into Alghero without taking the car every time.

You are in Alghero, in north-west Sardinia, with Maria Pia Beach around 150 metres away. Lido di Alghero Beach is about 700 metres from the hotel, while Fertilia Beach is roughly 1 km away. Punta Negra Beach sits about 2 km away, and Spiaggia di Las Tronas is around 2.5 miles from the property.

Alghero centre is a bus ride rather than a stroll: the journey takes about ten minutes, and the bus stops directly outside the hotel. The surrounding area also gives you a few alternatives for dinner, including La Conchiglia around 350 feet away, Lo Chalet Alghero about 1,400 feet away and Bontà Sarda roughly half a mile away. Alghero Railway Station is about 1.2 miles away, and the Nuraghe di Palmavera is around 3.6 miles from the hotel.

The room choice matters here because the layouts are not interchangeable. Solo travellers have a compact single room, while couples can go for a double or twin arrangement, including a super-king-size bed in the larger-bed option. For three people, the triple rooms use three single beds, which avoids the usual argument over who drew the short straw on the sofa.

Families and small groups have more useful space in the quadruple room, with two single beds and a bunk bed. That is the practical pick when bags, beach things and the general debris of a long day need somewhere to land. The comfort room combines a king-size bed with a bunk bed and works for a couple travelling with one child or for anyone who prefers a larger main bed.

Every room has air conditioning, a balcony, free WiFi and a private bathroom with a shower or bath, bidet, hairdryer and complimentary toiletries. A wardrobe, desk, flat-screen television and satellite channels cover the basics. The air conditioning will be welcome when you return warm and salty, while the balcony gives you somewhere to sit without having to decamp to the pool.

Breakfast brings a selection of Sardinian pastries, which is a more convincing reason to get out of bed than most alarm clocks manage. The restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine on a covered terrace, so dinner can stay outdoors without requiring a gamble with the weather.

There are two bars, including a pool bar, plus a snack bar for the moments when a full meal is too much effort but a completely empty stomach is worse. Room service and breakfast in the room are available, and special-diet menus can be arranged on request. Children's meals are also available, while wine and champagne can accompany the evening if the day calls for something more civilised than water in a dive bottle.

The outdoor pool is the obvious place to spend a non-diving afternoon, with sun loungers, beach chairs, umbrellas, a sun terrace and a solarium around it. There is also a children's pool, while the garden and outdoor seating offer alternatives for anyone who has had enough sun and would rather sit down properly.

For a little movement, you can use the tennis court, mini-golf course, table-tennis table, darts and billiards. Bicycle hire is available too, giving you another way to explore the coast without committing to a full excursion. The games room and children's playground keep younger travellers occupied, and babysitting or child services are available when adults need an hour that does not involve supervising a small expedition.

A practical caveat: tennis equipment, use of the tennis court, mini golf, billiards and bicycle hire are listed as chargeable extras. The pool, garden, sun terrace and table tennis provide easier options when the plan is simply to recover without opening another wallet-shaped discussion.

Alghero Airport is 7 km away. Hotel Oasis has a shuttle service, car hire and free private parking on site, including an electric-vehicle charging station. Parking does not require a reservation, which is useful if you are driving around Sardinia rather than relying on transfers. A lift, luggage storage, concierge, tour desk and 24-hour reception cover the less glamorous but genuinely useful parts of arrival and departure.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to midnight, and check-out is by 10:00. WiFi is available throughout the hotel, and a minimarket on site can save a trip when you need something small rather than a full shopping expedition. Cash is an accepted payment method. Children of any age are welcome; children aged three and over are charged as adults, and cots are available for younger children. Pets are not allowed.
