The atmosphere is relaxed rather than formal. The restaurant has a casual dress code, the hotel has a garden and outdoor seating, and the Bar del Porto handles the cocktail end of the evening. If you want to range further, the Area Marina Protetta Isola di Bergeggi is about 2.5 miles away, and the Genoa Cristoforo Colombo Airport is about 37 miles from the hotel. By road, the A10 motorway provides the main approach to Spotorno.

Sea views are the common thread. The double rooms with balcony are the obvious choice when you want to sit outside with a drink and keep the Ligurian coast in view; the double rooms without a balcony still give you the outlook. A king-size bed suits a couple who would rather not negotiate separate beds after a long day outdoors.

The triple rooms add a single bed beside the king-size bed, while the quadruple rooms use a sofa bed with a king-size bed. That makes the larger categories the practical option for a family or a small group, particularly when wet bags, clothes and everyday luggage begin to occupy more territory than expected. Lunch and dinner are served at the restaurant, and fresh seafood is one of its specialities. The setting is casual rather than jacket-and-tie territory, which is exactly the sort of arrangement that works when your main wardrobe achievement has been getting salt out of a rash vest. Half board is available, with the restaurant covering breakfast and the evening meal as part of the stay.

For a drink, Bar del Porto is the hotel's lobby bar and focuses on cocktails. Room service runs from midday until 22:00, but there is no continuous snack service described, so keep that in mind if you return hungry outside the restaurant's meal periods. Vegetarian and gluten-free choices are available.

The outdoor Piscina Miramare gives you another place to swim, with sea views rather than four blank walls. It is open to adults and children, and there is no swim-up bar competing with the actual purpose of the pool. The garden and outdoor seating offer a gentler option when you want to sit down without immediately ordering another drink.

The Miramare Wellness Center covers 200 square metres and includes massages, facial treatments, a sauna and a jacuzzi. That is the useful sort of post-dive planning: one person can choose a treatment while the other makes a convincing attempt to do nothing. A fitness centre and yoga classes are also available if you still have energy left to spend.

Away from the hotel, you can arrange cycling, hiking, cultural excursions and boat trips, with Genoa and Portofino among the excursions offered. Kayaking, paddleboarding and snorkelling are also available, as is equipment hire. Live music takes place at weekends, while the nearby coast and the Isola di Bergeggi protected marine area give you reasons to leave the sun lounger when the mood strikes.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 22:00, and you need to tell the hotel your expected arrival time. Photo identification and a credit card are required at check-in. Check-out is from 08:00 to 10:00, so early risers will not need to wait half the morning before leaving, although a late departure can be requested.
