Arenella Beach is about 0.7 miles away by road, while Asparano Beach is 1.2 miles on foot or 1.9 miles by car.

Syracuse’s historic sights are close enough for an outing rather than a full expedition. Castello Maniace, Fonte Aretusa, Fontana di Diana and the Tempio di Apollo are all around 5 miles away, while the Archaeological Park of Neapolis is about 6 miles away. Plemmirio Marine Park is roughly 6 miles from the resort by road.

You are staying in a resort setting rather than in the centre of town. A handful of restaurants and cafés are several miles away, so a car, taxi or organised outing is more useful than expecting a row of evening choices outside the gate.

The room range is broad enough to make the choice worth taking seriously. Couples can keep things simple with a double room, while the Superior Junior Suite gives you more breathing room and a separate bathroom. For three or four guests, the larger family and quadruple arrangements make more sense than trying to turn a compact double into a temporary equipment locker.

Balconies, patios or terraces give you somewhere to sit outside, and views can include the garden. Air conditioning is useful in Sicily when the day has involved heat, salt and a fair amount of walking back from the beach. A private bathroom includes a shower, hairdryer and toiletries; there is also a wardrobe, a clothes rack and a drying rack for clothing.

Daily housekeeping keeps the practical side moving, while free Wi-Fi, a desk, flat-screen television and satellite channels cover the quieter parts of the evening. Families are well catered for in the room plan, with family categories for different combinations of adults and children. Children of any age are welcome, and cots can be requested for younger children; extra beds are not available.

Three restaurants give you enough choice to avoid treating every evening as a repeat performance. Aretusa serves lunch and dinner, with local cuisine and a dedicated table for certain room categories. Alfeo also covers lunch and dinner. The main restaurant works in buffet style, including themed buffet dinners served on open-air terraces.

Breakfast is a buffet with Italian, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free choices. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free diets are also covered at mealtimes, with special diet menus available on request. That is useful when the appetite has caught up with you after a morning in the water; a plate of something reliable is often more valuable than a clever menu description.

There is a poolside pizzeria for a less formal meal, plus a snack bar, bar and on-site coffee house. The pizzeria requires a reservation. You can book half board, full board or an all-inclusive arrangement, with drinks included at the main buffet restaurant on half-board and full-board plans.

Three outdoor freshwater pools divide the afternoon neatly, including one reserved for adults. Add sun loungers, beach chairs, umbrellas and pool or beach towels, and you have the basic ingredients for the day when your legs have had enough ambition. The private beach is close enough to reach without turning a swim into an expedition.

For recovery with a little more structure, the wellness centre has a relaxation area, sauna, Turkish bath, Jacuzzi, facial and body treatments, beauty services and massages. The spa and fitness centre are available at additional cost, and children aged 12 and under cannot use the wellness centre. There is also an outdoor fitness area, a fitness centre and fitness classes for those who prefer movement to a treatment table.

Tennis, table tennis, cycling, a games room and a children’s playground give you alternatives to poolside inertia. Bicycle rental, bike tours, walking tours and local culture tours are available as paid activities. Daytime and evening entertainment includes live music, themed dinners and stand-up comedy, so the resort can keep the evening moving when you are not ready for bed but have already exhausted conversation about visibility.

Catania Fontanarossa Airport is about 44 miles away by road, with a driving time of roughly one hour. Comiso Airport is around 49 miles away by road and takes about an hour and a half. An airport shuttle is available as a paid service, and car hire is offered on site. Free private parking is available without reservation, with an electric vehicle charging station.

Check-in starts at 16:00 and check-out is by 10:00. You need to tell the resort your expected arrival time, and photo identification plus a credit card are required at check-in. Luggage storage and a 24-hour reception are useful if your travel timetable does not line up neatly with those hours.

The resort provides free Wi-Fi throughout, a tour desk, an ATM, packed lunches, laundry and a shared lounge with television. Accessibility includes wheelchair access, raised toilets and toilets with grab rails. Pets are not allowed.
