Ustica - Evasioni Blu Diving

Located on the island of Ustica, approximately 35 nautical miles north of Palermo, Evasioni Blu Diving operates within one of Italy's most significant marine protected areas. The centre is strategically positioned just a few metres from the Cala Santa Maria port, providing direct and easy access to the island's most iconic dive sites.

Since focusing exclusively on Ustica in 2021, the centre has established itself as a specialist in the local underwater topography. Whether you are arriving via the Liberty Lines hydroptère or the Caronte Tourist ferry, the proximity of the centre to the harbour makes the transition from land to boat seamless.

The team is led by professional PADI instructors and guides, including Esther and Rino, who manage all aspects of training and guided dives. As a PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre, the facility is equipped to handle everything from introductory dives to professional instructor training.

Safety is integrated into the centre's core operations through a partnership with DAN and the provision of on-board oxygen and first aid kits. The staff maintains a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, actively participating in global initiatives such as Project Aware, Dive Against Debris, and Finathon.

The centre offers a comprehensive curriculum of PADI courses catering to every stage of a diver's progression. This includes entry-level programmes such as PADI Discover Scuba Diving and Bubblemaker, through to the Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications.

For those looking to specialise or advance professionally, the centre provides training for PADI Rescue Diver, Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and Open Water Scuba Instructor. They also facilitate PADI TEC courses and Master Scuba Diver Trainer pathways for experienced divers.

The centre operates two spacious semi-rigid diving boats, measuring 7.50m and 8.00m respectively. Both vessels are powered by 250HP Suzuki motors, ensuring reliable transit to the various secche and underwater formations surrounding the island.

These boats are designed to accommodate up to 20 divers comfortably, providing ample space for gear and relaxation between dives. Nitrox is available on board for those requiring extended bottom times during their excursions.

The shore-based facilities at Cala Santa Maria include dedicated rinsing areas, equipment storage, changing rooms, and sanitary facilities. A large terrace overlooking the sea provides a relaxation area for divers to unwind after their sessions.

For those looking to hire kit, the centre stocks a full range of Mares equipment that is regularly maintained. Divers can also access Nitrox fills on-site. The centre provides steel cylinders in various volumes, including 10L, 15L, and 18L, all equipped with both DIN and INT double valves.

The marine life around Ustica is diverse, with the protected status of the area supporting a healthy ecosystem. You will encounter various species of Mediterranean coral, including orange coral, which adds significant colour to the reef structures.

Macro life is a highlight for many divers, particularly in the cave systems and around the rocky outcrops. Look out for unicorn shrimps and common octopus hiding within the crevices. The seabed and rock faces are also home to various crustaceans and interesting invertebrates.

The wider environment supports a variety of larger residents, including common octopus, which can be found patrolling the reef and rocky areas.

Diving in Ustica is shaped by the island's volcanic topography and its status as a protected marine area. The local sites include a mix of deep secche, caves, and open rock formations.
