Truk Lagoon Dive Center

Truk Lagoon Dive Center is positioned as the primary operator for divers seeking to explore the historic shipwrecks of Chuuk Lagoon. Located just 10 minutes from the airport, the centre provides the specialised resources required for serious wreck exploration, from shallow recreational dives to advanced technical penetration.

The centre is integrated with the Truk Stop Hotel, allowing for a seamless transition between accommodation and the dive boat. This setup provides divers with easy access to a private dock, dive lockers, and essential shore-based facilities like rinse tanks and showers.

The centre is operated by an international team of expatriate PADI certified instructors and staff. The team includes local Chuukese, FSM citizens, and Filipinos, all of whom provide instruction and guidance in English.

As a TDI training facility, the centre places a heavy emphasis on the development of technical skills, judgment, and confidence. The instructors are experienced in leading dives on deep wrecks, walls, and in cave environments, catering to those looking to move beyond basic certification into advanced technical diving.

The centre offers a full range of training, from the PADI Open Water Diver course through to advanced specialties such as PADI Deep Diver and Wreck Diver. They provide the necessary instruction for those looking to extend their bottom times using Nitrox.

For technical divers, the centre serves as a TDI training facility, offering advanced courses in technical diving. Their teaching approach focuses on the practical application of skills, judgment, and safety required for deep wreck and cave exploration.

The centre operates three boats, all equipped with twin outboard engines for reliability. These vessels allow for up to four dives per day, with most dive sites located less than 20 minutes from the dock.

Onboard, you will find essential safety and comfort equipment, including communication tools, oxygen, emergency first aid kits, and fresh water. The boats are fully equipped to support technical diving, with Nitrox and Trimix gas blends available for your dives.

For technical divers, the centre provides a comprehensive gas blending station using Bauer compressors and a Haskell system for blending Nitrox and Trimix. They maintain a large supply of Helium to assist with narcosis management at depth and are the only supplier of medical-grade oxygen on the island.

Rebreather divers will find the centre highly accommodating, with 17 sets of tanks (2lt/3lt) available featuring Buddy in line valves, as well as a stock of Sofnolime 797. For those requiring rental kit, the centre stocks BCDs, regulators, masks, fins, dive computers, and dive lights.

Shore-side facilities include a private dock, dedicated dive lockers, rinse tanks, and showers to facilitate easy preparation and post-dive cleaning of your equipment.

The wrecks and surrounding waters are home to a variety of pelagic and reef species. You may encounter Great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) patrolling the structures, alongside various trevallies and bottlenose dolphins.

In the shallower areas and around the reef, look for Sea turtle (Cheloniidae) and various reef fish (mixed tropical species). Grey reef shark (Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos) are also known to visit the area.

The marine environment is enriched by a diverse array of fixed life. You will see various species of Soft coral (Alcyonacea), Sponge (Porifera), and Sea anemone (Actiniaria) colonising the wrecks and reef flats.

Diving in Truk Lagoon is supported by a professional fleet that can manage up to four dives per day. The centre provides specialized support for night dives and shark dives, allowing for a varied dive itinerary.

The proximity of the dive sites, typically within a 20-minute boat ride, ensures that more time is spent at the bottom rather than in transit.
