How long is your layover?

One terminal and everything is walkable, but no official minimum connection time is published.
- La Tontouta has a single passenger terminal, so you do not need a shuttle; there is no official minimum connection time.
- You pass through a security checkpoint before the departure lounge, and there is no clear provision for an airside-to-airside transit that bypasses it.
2–5 hrs
Unusually practical for a hub: the showers are free and airside.
- Wi-Fi is free throughout the terminal.
- Free showers are available in the departure area, which is more useful than another expensive cup of airport coffee.
- You will find vending machines, an OPT office, an information point, and mobile internet and currency exchange services in the terminal.
- There is no left-luggage facility; you must keep your kit with you.
- Food, duty-free shops, mobile internet, pocket Wi-Fi and transport into town are paid services.
5–10 hrs
You can enter without a visa for up to 3 months, but your passport must be recent and contain blank pages.
- NO VISA for French, German, Italian, Spanish, British and Portuguese passport holders entering New Caledonia for up to 3 months in a 6-month period.
- Check this before leaving: your passport must have been issued less than 10 years ago and contain at least 2 blank pages.
- There is no organised city tour from the airport.

There is no airside hotel; landside addresses are reached by shuttle.

What catches travellers out
No visa does not mean no passport conditions
Visa exemption is not enough: your passport must have been issued less than 10 years ago and contain at least 2 blank pages, or you may be refused boarding.
You cannot simply buy Hibiscus Lounge access at the gate
Lounge Access is an option attached to an Aircalin or SB-coded Economy or Premium Economy ticket and must be booked in advance; it is not an all-airline lounge with unrestricted last-minute entry.
Why not wait it out in peace?
You can buy access to the Hibiscus Lounge as an option on Aircalin flights; it is not simply open to everyone at the gate.
Lounge Access is a paid extra for Economy and Premium Economy passengers on an Aircalin flight, or a flight coded SB, subject to advance booking and availability.
It gives you access to the Hibiscus Lounge at La Tontouta and, on the Nouméa–Paris route via Bangkok, the Miracle Lounge if you have bought the option.
Business passengers, Aircalin subscribers and Flying Blue Gold/Platinum members also receive access to the Hibiscus Lounge automatically; that is a status benefit, not a one-off purchase.
The Lounge Access option is comparable to the cost of a sit-down airport meal, added to your Aircalin fare.
Where to sleep during the layover?
Hotels are served by shuttle from the airport, with no consolidated official inventory; there is no airside accommodation.
- Confirm the shuttle service and its operating hours directly with the hotel when you book.
- Nouméa is about 50 km from the airport; without a shuttle, you will need a taxi.
The diver’s reflex
Torches and housings: remove batteries and seek approval
With Aircalin, spare batteries and power banks are prohibited in checked baggage and must travel in the cabin, subject to conditions. Diving torches are accepted when their batteries have been removed, but the baggage remains subject to approval from the dangerous goods department.
Dive kit travels in the hold, with approval first
Aircalin accepts dive equipment in checked baggage only and requires prior approval from its traffic and dangerous goods department. An additional baggage allowance exists for this equipment on Aircalin-operated flights: request it when you book, not at the check-in desk.
