The tone is easy-going rather than formal. You can cool off in the outdoor pool, settle under a parasol or head for the beach, then return to air conditioning, room service and a proper bed. For couples, the setting works neatly; for families, children of all ages are welcome and a child-friendly buffet is available.

You are in Diani Beach, Kenya, on the seafront with direct access to white sand, sun loungers, parasols and a beach bar. The hotel is close enough to the useful parts of the resort without putting you in the middle of a shopping centre car park, which is generally a sound arrangement when your main luggage is dive gear.

Diani Beach Shopping Centre is about 1 mile away. Due Point Cafe is roughly 300 feet from the hotel, while Club Willow & Restaurant and Jam Turkey Chicken Inn are each around 350 metres away. For a change of scenery, Colobus Conservation is about 4.5 miles away and Kaya Kinondo Sacred Forest about 8 miles away; Galu Beach is around 5 miles from the hotel.

Ukunda Airport is approximately 0.8 miles away. Moi International Airport is about 26 miles away, so your arrival route depends rather more on which airport your flight uses than on any heroic final leg.

The room choice is fairly clear. Couples who want a large shared bed can take the Superior Double Room, while the twin option suits two divers who have agreed that separate beds are cheaper than an argument. A pool-view room adds the visual link to the main pool and can also accommodate a larger bed arrangement, depending on the option selected.

Every room has air conditioning, a fan, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, a wardrobe and a private entrance. The mosquito net is a sensible detail in a tropical destination, while the private bathroom includes a bath or shower, towels, slippers and toiletries. There is also a drying rack for clothing; useful for swimwear and the day's damp kit, but not a substitute for a proper dive-centre drying area.
