You are staying in Magemani, a quiet area on Mafia Island’s west coast, with enough room to slow down without being cut off from Kilindoni.

This is a sensible base if you prefer a compact hotel to a large resort. Your day can move between the garden, the pool, the restaurant and the island outside, with a private entrance and a little more separation than a conventional block of rooms. Rufiji Mafia Kilwa Marine Reserve is about 4.3 miles away by road. The hotel’s surroundings combine garden and coastal outlook rather than a stated beach frontage, so choose it for the elevated sea view and access to Kilindoni, not for the promise of stepping straight from your room onto sand.

The room choice is usefully uncomplicated. A Double Room suits a couple who want one large bed and a private bathroom; the Twin Room is the practical answer when two divers prefer separate beds and do not wish to negotiate sleeping arrangements after a long day. Both room categories have garden views, air conditioning and a mosquito net.
