Scuba School and Family Dive Center Belize

Located on the beachfront of San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, Scuba School and Family Dive Center Belize serves as a primary gateway to the Belize Barrier Reef. The centre is positioned just a short boat ride from some of the most significant underwater landmarks in the country, ranging from shallow coral gardens to deep oceanic sinkholes.

Since its establishment in 2010, the centre has built a reputation for high-standard instruction and safe, professional dive operations. It has been recognised as a top PADI training centre in the region for over a decade, maintaining a consistent presence in the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame.

The centre operates as a locally managed PADI 5 Star facility, prioritising a high standard of safety and continuous education for both students and recreational divers. To ensure personalised attention, the team maintains strict ratios, limiting classroom instruction to a maximum of four students per instructor and keeping dive groups between six and eight divers.

Instruction is delivered by a team of certified PADI professionals trained in the most recent teaching methodologies. The staff focuses on a professional yet inclusive atmosphere, ensuring that every diver, from those on their first resort course to seasoned Divemasters, feels supported throughout their programme.

The training programme is comprehensive, covering the entire PADI spectrum from entry-level courses to professional development. Nitrox is available on-site, and the centre includes Nitrox certification within its various dive packages. This allows divers to extend their bottom time while exploring the deeper reefs and canyons of the atolls.

The reefs are teeming with a vast array of colourful life, including angelfish, parrotfish, butterflyfish, and various species of snapper and grouper. You will frequently see large schools of jack and barracuda patrolling the reef edges, while moray eels and lobsters hide within the coral crevices.

For those looking for larger animals, the area is a hotspot for pelagics. Depending on the time of year, you may encounter reef sharks, hammerhead sharks, bull sharks, tiger sharks, and even silky sharks. Large groupers and various species of rays, including spotted eagle rays, are also common sightings.

Macro life enthusiasts can find plenty to observe, from colourful nudibranchs and various species of shrimp to lionfish and large crabs. The seabed is home to a variety of crustaceans, including spiny lobster.

Seasonal highlights include sightings of manatees between November and February, and whale sharks from March to June. If you dive between May and June, you may also witness sea turtle nesting, while September and October bring the chance to see octopus and bioluminescent plankton.

Diving in Belize is best experienced during the dry season from December to May, when the seas are typically calmer and visibility is at its peak. During these months, the water is generally stable, though certain sites like Tres Cocos and the south-east side of Turneffe Atoll can experience strong currents.

In terms of sea states, the waters are often calmest in January, February, May, and June. Divers should be prepared for varying conditions depending on the specific atoll or reef section being visited.
