You can therefore make the evening as sociable or as quiet as you like: cocktail downstairs, food delivered upstairs, or a table in the restaurant before heading out to see Rio after dark.

There is a sun terrace with loungers and outdoor furniture, making it a sensible stop when you want fresh air and a swim without committing to a full day away from the hotel.

The gym is fully equipped and suits anyone who prefers to keep moving between excursions. It is a straightforward option for loosening up after travel or balancing out a day spent sitting in cars, aircraft and restaurants. No timetable is needed: the facility is there when your legs decide they have had enough sightseeing.

For something beyond the hotel, cultural excursions can be arranged as part of the hotel's activities. The city's museums, parks and landmarks are close enough to build your own afternoon around them, from the Modern Art Museum nearby to the Selarón Steps and the Arcos da Lapa. Evening entertainment is also available at the property when you want the night to come to you.

Santos Dumont Airport is the easy arrival point: the hotel is connected to it and the terminal is only a few steps away. Galeão International Airport is about 10 miles away by road, with the hotel listing the journey at around 30 minutes by car.
