Hotel Elixir

Hotel Elixir is a four-star hotel in Tamarindo built around the useful things you want close at hand: air-conditioned rooms, an outdoor pool open throughout the year, a sun terrace and free WiFi across the property. It is a straightforward choice for adults, with room policies that do not cater for children and a minimum check-in age of 18.

The mood is more small hotel than sprawling resort. You can move between the garden, the patio and the pool without turning the return from the beach into another expedition. Outdoor furniture and an outdoor dining area give you somewhere to sit outside, while private check-in and check-out, concierge assistance and express services keep the administrative part of the trip reasonably contained.

You are in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, with Tamarindo Beach a six-minute walk away. That puts the Pacific within easy reach without requiring the hotel itself to sit directly on the sand. For a second stretch of coastline, Grande Beach is about 0.8 miles away on foot, while Langosta Beach is about 1.2 miles away by car.

The immediate surroundings are useful rather than remote. Breaking Bread is about 350 metres away and Cafe Colibrí about 550 metres, giving you nearby places for coffee or a change of scene. Tamarindo Airport is about 2.5 miles away by car; Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport and Nosara Airport are each about 36 miles away by road, so the arrival plan depends very much on which airport you use.

The room categories are intended for couples rather than families or groups. If you want a little more room around the bed and a private outdoor pause, the Suite with Balcony is the obvious pick. The Queen Room with Balcony gives you the same basic couple-sized arrangement with a balcony, while the standard rooms keep things simpler for a stay where the beach and Tamarindo will do most of the entertaining.

Every room has air conditioning and a fan, which gives you two practical ways to deal with a warm Costa Rican night. A mosquito net is also provided. You get a private bathroom with a shower, towels, toiletries and a hairdryer, plus a minibar for keeping a cold drink close after the walk back from the coast. There is a wardrobe, a desk, a clothes rack and a flat-screen TV, with inner-courtyard or pool views depending on the room.

The outdoor pool is the main reason to stay on site once the beach has had its turn. Pool and beach towels are available, and sun loungers or beach chairs make it possible to settle down without having to improvise with a room towel and a patch of paving. The sun terrace, patio and garden add several places to sit when you want to be outside but not necessarily in the water.

For the less athletic version of an afternoon, massages are available, including full-body, back, neck, head, hand and foot treatments. A couples massage gives you something to book together while the rest of Tamarindo carries on without you. It is the sort of facility that makes sense when your legs have already put in a proper shift and the idea of another activity feels suspiciously like work.

Check-in runs from 16:00 to 18:00 and check-out is by 10:00. Private and express check-in and check-out are available, alongside concierge service. An airport shuttle operates as a paid service, either as a private transfer or shared shuttle depending on the arrangement made with the hotel; organise it with the property before travelling, particularly if you are arriving at one of the airports outside Tamarindo.

Free private parking is available on site and does not require a reservation. WiFi is free throughout the hotel. Payment before arrival by bank transfer is required, and cash is accepted as a payment method. A refundable damage deposit is collected on arrival by card and returned within seven days of check-out after the property has been inspected.

The practical rules are clear enough: the minimum age for check-in is 18, children are not accommodated, cots and extra beds are not available, and pets are not allowed. Cancellation and prepayment conditions vary by accommodation type, so check the terms attached to the room you choose rather than assuming every category follows the same rule.
