Couples can keep things simple with a King Studio or a beach-front villa, while the larger villa gives a family or small group room to spread out. Nothing too clever: just a place where you can shower, cool down and sit outside with a view of the sea.

The hotel's white-sand beach is at The Beach Club, a couple of miles along the coast road. If your priority is the shoreline, choose the Beach Front Villa; if the trip involves a family or small group, the Three-Bedroom Villa is the obvious choice.

The practical extras are well judged for a diving holiday. A coffee machine, kettle and microwave let you sort out a drink or a small bite without staging a full kitchen operation, and private bathrooms include a bath or shower, towels, a hairdryer and toiletries. Sea air is lovely. Wet kit and tired legs still appreciate a cool, private room.

The Farm Restaurant handles breakfast, lunch and dinner indoors, with menus shaped by what is ripe and in season. Much of the produce comes from the vegetable beds and fruit trees just minutes away, giving the kitchen a genuine farm-to-table angle rather than a slogan imported from a brochure. Breakfast is included and follows an American format, with options such as juice, pancakes, cheese and fruit.

The weekly rhythm is worth knowing before you arrive. On Mondays and Tuesdays, lunch and dinner are available by reservation. From Wednesday to Thursday, lunch runs from 12:00 to 14:30 and dinner from 18:00 to 20:45; from Friday to Sunday, dinner runs from 18:00 to 20:45. That is not a late-night kitchen, so plan the final meal rather than assuming the restaurant will still be serving when the boat has had a long day.

The Beach Club adds a second setting, with lunch and dinner on the beach from Friday to Sunday. Lunch runs from 12:00 to 15:30 and dinner from 18:00 to 21:00. There is also a bar, while room service gives you a quieter option when conversation has given way to post-dive fatigue.

Two pools give you a choice of setting: one at the Manor House and one oceanfront at The Beach Club. Add sun loungers, beach chairs and towels, and you have the ingredients for an afternoon that requires no more effort than turning a page. The private beach area is another reason to stay on the property rather than treating the hotel as somewhere to sleep between outings.

For a little movement without turning the holiday into a training camp, there is a fitness centre and a tennis court, with tennis equipment available. Cycling and hiking are also available on Cayman Brac, giving you a way to see more of the island when your legs want something other than another swim.

Families have an indoor play area for children, and children of any age are welcome. Couples, meanwhile, can simply take the quieter route: pool, terrace, garden and sea view, in that order. The island does not need a packed programme to fill a day.
