Don Foster's Dive Cayman has been a fixture of the Grand Cayman diving scene since 1982. Now operating as DFD 2.0, the centre has refined its approach to focus on high-standard boat and shore diving for a dedicated community of divers.

The centre is situated on South Church Street in George Town, a short walk from the cruise ship terminal. It serves as an ideal base for those looking to explore the island's diverse underwater topography, from shallow reef flats to the dramatic drop-offs of the North Wall.

The team is led by Operations Director Sergio, who has been with the centre for over 30 years. This level of experience is reflected in the centre's long-standing reputation and its receipt of the PADI Outstanding Service award.

The staff brings together a multicultural blend of experience and a shared focus on safety and responsible ocean observation. This professional approach ensures that whether you are completing your first certification or training for a Divemaster rating, the instruction is precise and reliable.

The centre offers a comprehensive range of PADI training programmes. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving or the full Open Water Diver course, with shore-based referral options available.

For continuing education, the curriculum includes Advanced Open Water Diver, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and specialty courses such as Navigation Diver, Night Diver, and Peak Performance Buoyancy. Professional training is also available for those pursuing the Rescue Diver or Divemaster certifications.

The centre operates two V-hull boats to accommodate different diving needs. The Cayman Sky is the larger vessel, capable of carrying 24 divers, and is powered by twin John Deere engines.

The Cayman Wall is a smaller option with a capacity for 16 divers, powered by a single John Deere engine. Both boats are equipped for comfort and utility, featuring freshwater showers and ample dry storage for your belongings.

On shore, the facilities are designed to make the transition from land to sea seamless. There is a dedicated freshwater rinse area for your dive electronics, cameras, computers, and torches, alongside large rinse tanks for your personal kit.

For those hiring equipment, the centre provides Scubapro BCDs and regulators, with dive computers included in the rental. Wetsuits are available in shortie styles, and the shop maintains all kit in-house via a qualified Scubapro technician. Nitrox is readily available for qualified divers.

The reefs around Grand Cayman are home to a variety of charismatic pelagics and reef residents. You can regularly encounter spotted eagle rays, great barracuda, queen anglefish, and sea turtles.

Macro enthusiasts will find plenty to observe, including Lettuce Leaf slugs. The diverse habitats provided by the walls and canyons support a healthy ecosystem of reef fish and invertebrates.

The surrounding waters also offer the chance to see various species during night dives, particularly when exploring the reef or participating in the specialised black water dives.

Diving in Grand Cayman is primarily conducted via boat or from the shore. While the centre offers various dive profiles, divers should always be prepared for the specific conditions of the site, such as the currents found along the wall or the swell encountered on open-water sites.
