The address is in Baie Nettle, on the lagoon side of Saint-Martin, with direct access to the beach and Nettle Bay Beach roughly 0.1 miles away. Baie Rouge Beach is about 1 mile away, while Petite Baie Beach and Pointe des Fleurs Beach are also within roughly 1 mile. The island's beaches are therefore not confined to the one outside your door.

You are about 4.3 miles from Princess Juliana International Airport and around 3.1 miles from the town centre. Marigot is roughly 4.3 miles away, giving you more restaurants and shopping when the hotel menu has had its turn. A couple of nearby restaurants are within about 0.1 and 0.6 miles, and Le Cyrus bar is around 0.5 miles away.

This is a useful base if you want the lagoon and beach close by without being cut off from the rest of the island. The nearby airport also keeps the transfer straightforward, which matters when your luggage contains more awkward shapes than clothing.

Every room is air-conditioned and comes with a balcony facing either the street or the lagoon. That gives you somewhere to sit with a cold drink while your kit dries off from the day, although the balcony is not described as a dedicated diving facility. Soundproof rooms and soundproofing are available, a worthwhile detail when a proper night's sleep matters more than another late conversation in the corridor.

The larger duplex suites are the sensible choice for a family or a small group that needs separate zones rather than one shared rectangle. The superior duplex has two bathrooms, as does the standard duplex with one sofa bed or two sofa beds. For a couple, a standard suite or superior king junior suite keeps things more compact without turning the room into a luggage obstacle course. The superior king room with sofa bed gives you another option when a third sleeper is needed.

Daily housekeeping is available, as is room service. The practical sequence is clear: return hot and salt-covered, turn on the air conditioning, put something cold in the fridge and let the room do the rest of the work.

L'pied dans l'sable sits directly on the beach, combining a restaurant and beach bar in the same spot. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served there, with French cuisine given a Caribbean twist. Lunch runs from midday to 1.30pm, while dinner is served from 6pm to 10pm. The setting does some of the evening's heavy lifting: sand, cocktails and the sunset, without requiring a taxi to find the shoreline.

Breakfast is American and buffet-style, and breakfast can also be taken in your room. Special-diet menus are available on request, while the restaurant and bar give you a straightforward place to eat and drink without leaving the property. Wine and champagne are available too, should the day call for something more ceremonial than a recovery snack.

There are also beach restaurants within walking distance, including Adèle et Gabrielle around 0.1 miles away and Ma Ti Beach at about 0.6 miles. Marigot adds further restaurant choice at roughly 4.3 miles, so you can keep dinner local or make an evening of going out.

When the plan is to stay above water, the outdoor swimming pool gives you an alternative to the beach, while the sun terrace, loungers, garden, terrace and private beach area cover the less ambitious part of the afternoon. There is also a children's pool and outdoor play equipment, making the property workable for mixed-age groups rather than only for adults who have forgotten how to share a holiday.

The 42-square-metre spa includes a relaxation area, spa facilities, foot bath and open-air bath. Treatments include body scrubs, body wraps, body treatments and facial services, alongside manicures, pedicures and beauty services. Massages cover the back, neck, feet, head and full body, with couples' massage available when two people have managed to agree on a time.

A fitness centre, fitness classes, yoga classes and personal training are available if your idea of recovery involves deliberate movement. For something lighter, there is table tennis, while on-site water sports include jet skiing and other water-sports facilities. Live music, broadcast sports and temporary art galleries add occasional reasons to leave the room after dinner.

Check-in starts at 4pm and check-out is by midday. You need photo identification and a credit card at check-in, and the hotel asks you to share your expected arrival time in advance.
