Blue Salt Divers

Blue Salt Divers is situated directly on the waterfront in Christiansted, providing easy access to the marine environments of St. Croix. The centre operates as a PADI facility, focusing on small-group excursions that allow for a more intimate experience with the local underwater topography.

From the reef flats to deeper canyon systems, the centre's operations are designed to cater to a wide range of experience levels. You can choose between morning charters or afternoon adventure trips, with the ability to add night dives to your itinerary.

The team is composed of 12 professional instructors who provide local expertise on the waters of the US Virgin Islands. The instruction is conducted in English, and the staff is noted for their local knowledge of the specific currents and sites around the island.

Beyond standard recreational diving, the centre is equipped to handle a variety of specialised training needs. This includes everything from adaptive diving to technical specialties, ensuring that the team can support divers throughout their entire progression.

The centre offers a complete spectrum of PADI training. Beginners can start with Discover Scuba Diving and the Open Water Diver course, while more experienced divers can progress through Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster certifications.

Specialised training is extensive, covering areas such as Nitrox, Deep Diver, Wreck Diving, and Drift Diver. The curriculum also includes technical and skill-based specialties like Sidemount Diver, Self-Reliant Diver, Full Face Mask Diver, and Underwater Navigator, as well as conservation-focused courses like Coral Reef Conservation and Dive Against Debris.

The centre operates a custom 28-foot Delta boat named Lil' Salty. This vessel is designed for small groups, with a maximum capacity of 10 passengers, ensuring that you aren't crowded on deck during your trips.

On board, you will find freshwater for rinsing, snacks, and dedicated bottle racks. The boat is configured to support various dive profiles, including night dives, and carries Nitrox for those requiring extended bottom times.

A full range of rental equipment is available on-site, including masks, fins, snorkels, BCDs, regulators, weights, and cylinders. For those preferring to bring their own kit, a valet service is provided to assist with the preparation, cleaning, and storage of your gear.

Safety is a priority at the centre, with oxygen for emergency use available on-site. The facility is conveniently located on the Christiansted promenade, making it easy to access before heading to the docks.

The reefs around St. Croix are home to a vibrant array of Caribbean fish. You will frequently see Parrotfish (Calotomus), yellowtail snappers, blue tangs, and various species of Angelfish (Pomacanthidae). Larger residents include Jacks, Barracuda (Sphyraena), and Caribbean reef sharks, which often patrol the deeper sections of the reef.

In the sandy areas and near the reef edges, you can encounter Southern stingray (Hypanus americanus), Sea turtle (Cheloniidae), and Octopus (Octopoda). For those watching the water column, Eagle ray (Aetobatus) and Dolphins are common visitors.

Macro life and smaller residents add significant interest to the dives. Keep an eye out for Spiny lobster, Moray eel (Muraenidae), and various species of Octopus (Octopus vulgaris) tucked into crevices. The reefs also host a variety of smaller creatures including crabs and other invertebrates.

The centre selects dive sites based on current conditions to ensure the best possible experience for each group. While the sites vary, the local expertise helps in navigating the specific flow of the water at each location.

Night diving is a regular part of the centre's offering, allowing you to see a completely different side of the reef's nocturnal activity.
