Daffodils Spice Court is a three-star hotel for a city stay rather than a beach resort escape. You have air-conditioned rooms, a garden, a terrace, WiFi throughout, a shared lounge and room service, with the useful bits arranged around a day spent exploring Cochin rather than around a long list of resort facilities.

The feel is practical and urban. You can return to a private bathroom, cool down properly, make a drink with the kettle, and settle into the lounge or terrace before deciding whether to eat in, order room service or head out. There is also free private parking on site, which matters if your Kerala itinerary involves more than one base.

The hotel is in Cochin, India, close to the Mattancherry and Fort Kochi sights. Mattancherry Palace and Mattancherry Park are both about 0.2 miles away, while the nearby restaurant choices include Caza Maria Restaurant, Cafe Jew Town and MTB, all within roughly 0.2 miles. Puthu's Tea Shop is about 0.3 miles away when the immediate requirement is something simpler than a full meal.

The location suits you if you want historic streets, museums, cafés and waterfront sights within reach, rather than a hotel where the sea begins at the front gate.

Cochin International Airport is 15 miles away in a straight-line calculation, with the road journey around 22 miles. The stated driving time is about 39 minutes, so allow for the reality of arriving in an Indian city rather than planning your airport transfer like a military operation.

The room choice is mainly about how you sleep and who is sharing the space. A Double Room suits two adults who want the straightforward option, while the Superior Queen Room gives you an extra-large bed. If separate beds are more useful than one large mattress, the Deluxe Double or Twin Room does the obvious job. There is also a balcony option for two adults and one child, giving the room a little outdoor breathing space.

Every room has air conditioning, a private bathroom, a wardrobe, a desk, a clothes rack and a view of either the city or the garden. After hot, humid sightseeing or a long day travelling, the air conditioning is the feature you will notice first. A ceiling fan is also available, while soundproofing and soundproof rooms are part of the accommodation setup for those who would rather not conduct the evening through the walls.

A refrigerator and electric kettle make the room more useful than a place that only works when you are standing at reception. Keep water cool, make tea, and use the desk if travel planning still needs doing. The building has a lift, wheelchair-accessible areas and upper floors accessible by lift, while the property is non-smoking throughout apart from a designated smoking area.

Children older than eight are welcome. Children aged 14 and above are charged as adults; an extra bed can be requested for children aged eight to ten, subject to the selected room option and availability. Cots are not available. Pets are not allowed, and cash is the accepted payment method.
