Set on the island of Nosy Tsarabanjina in Madagascar’s Mitsio Archipelago, this is a small all-inclusive beach lodge built around sea, sand and a deliberately easy rhythm. There are 25 villas, a private beach area and the kind of setting where the main decision after breakfast is whether to go into the water or stay looking at it.

The mood is relaxed rather than formal. Bare feet are welcome at the beach restaurant, the bar sits beside the ocean, and the accommodation keeps things simple with a private terrace, outdoor seating and a view towards the beach. You come here for island life, not for a busy resort timetable.

Couples will find the setting particularly straightforward: your room, the sand and the sea are all part of the same small world. Families are also catered for, with children over six welcome, children’s meals, board games and extra beds available for some accommodation options.

The lodge is in Nosy Be, Madagascar, on the isolated island of Nosy Tsarabanjina, off the country’s north-west coast. It is directly on the sea, with a private white-sand beach, sun loungers and parasols. This is an island address, so the beach is not something you reach by crossing a road; it starts outside.

Getting there is part of the geography. From Nosy Be airport, the journey continues by road to Manga Soa Lodge and then by boat to Tsarabanjina. The road section takes around 15 minutes, followed by a boat transfer of roughly 60 to 90 minutes. Transfers are collective and arranged around flight schedules and sea conditions, so this is not the sort of arrival where you simply collect a key and wander upstairs.

The nearest useful café and restaurant are back on Nosy Be, rather than around the lodge. On Tsarabanjina, the practical assumption is that you will eat, drink and spend your evenings on site.

The accommodation is made up of beachfront villas, with the choice between the north and south beach sides. Both villa types suit couples who want their own outdoor space and a direct relationship with the sand; the South Beach Villa and North Beach Villa each sleep up to three people, making them workable for a small family or a diving pair travelling with one extra guest.

Your private terrace comes with deck chairs, outdoor furniture and a table facing the beach. That gives you somewhere to sit with a drink, sort out the day’s photographs or simply let the salt dry off before dinner. A private entrance keeps the room feeling separate from the rest of the lodge, while the seating area inside offers a place to escape the sun without turning the villa into a complicated indoor retreat.

Air conditioning and a fan cover the practical side of sleeping in a warm island climate. There is also a mosquito net, a minibar, a coffee machine and an electric kettle, which matter when you return tired, thirsty and not especially interested in making a social appearance. The bathroom has a shower, bathrobes, a hairdryer and toiletries. Free Wi-Fi is available in the rooms, and daily housekeeping keeps the post-dive clutter from becoming a permanent feature.

The all-inclusive formula keeps the food arrangements pleasingly simple. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at Tsarabanjina Restaurant, on the beach, with a menu built around Malagasy and international cooking. Fresh local ingredients and seafood are central to the offer, which is exactly the sort of food that makes sense when the Indian Ocean is sitting a few steps away.

Breakfast is served as a buffet. Lunch and dinner continue the beach setting, with meals taken barefoot or in suitably relaxed clothes rather than anything that requires a fight with a suitcase. A selection of wines from around the world is available with meals, alongside the fresh seafood and local dishes.

There is one bar, The Bar, serving cocktails, local drinks and light snacks with ocean views. It has no fixed closing time: the team stays open until the last guest has finished. That is useful when a late return from the water turns “one quick drink” into the entire evening’s entertainment. The lodge also arranges themed dinner nights.

The beach is the main piece of leisure equipment here, and it is a good one: white sand, clear water, loungers and parasols. When lying down becomes too ambitious, the included activities give you several ways to get wet without putting a tank on your back, including snorkelling, paddleboarding, kayaking, beach volleyball, pétanque and sailing. Morning aqua-gym sessions take place in the sea, while a fitness room is available for those who prefer their exercise with fewer waves.

The Constance Spa provides massages, body scrubs and after-sun wraps in a natural setting. It is a sensible option for the day when your shoulders have had enough of carrying kit, or when your travelling companion has no interest in discussing yesterday’s visibility over lunch. The spa kiosk follows a minimalist design and sits within the island’s natural surroundings.

There is more to do on land if you want to move beyond the beach: guided walks, wildlife observation and cultural excursions are available, along with visits connected with the surrounding islands and fishing villages. Boat excursions and sport fishing are also offered. In the evening, board games at the bar provide a low-effort alternative to organising another expedition.

Plan the arrival as a combined air, road and boat journey. The hotel arranges the collective transfer from Nosy Be airport to Manga Soa Lodge and onward by boat to Tsarabanjina, with the return journey following the same pattern. Boat movements depend on flight schedules and sea conditions, so delays or changes can occur. The transfer is only operated between Nosy Be and the lodge through the stated route, rather than as a general island shuttle.

Arrival is scheduled between 14:00 and 16:00, and departure between 10:30 and 12:00. You should give the lodge your expected arrival time in advance. If your flight arrives too late for the boat connection, an overnight stay on Nosy Be or in Antananarivo may be needed; likewise, an early onward flight from Nosy Be may make a final night on the island impractical.

The front desk operates around the clock. Luggage storage, currency exchange, laundry and ironing services are available, while a safety deposit box and 24-hour security cover the less glamorous but useful details. Cash is not accepted. Wi-Fi is free throughout the lodge, and the accommodation is non-smoking.

The lodge’s environmental approach is built into the way the island experience is presented. Its practices focus on supporting local communities, preserving the surrounding nature and encouraging a more sustainable future.

The spa follows the same line, using a natural setting and a minimalist design rather than turning the island into a large built-up complex.
