Constance Tsarabanjina - All Inclusive

You arrive here for an island lodge rather than a conventional hotel: 25 beach villas on the isolated islet of Nosy Tsarabanjina, in Madagascar’s Nosy Mitsio Archipelago. The mood is deliberately barefoot and unhurried, with the beach, the sea and the bar doing most of the work. That is either exactly what you want or a useful warning if you need a pavement, a taxi and three restaurants within walking distance.

The all-inclusive arrangement keeps the day pleasantly simple. You can move from the water to your terrace, from the terrace to lunch, and from lunch to a lounger without turning the afternoon into a logistics exercise. Couples are particularly well served by the setting, while families should note that children from age four are accepted under the property’s policy.

The Booking location is Nosy Be, Madagascar, but the lodge itself sits offshore on Nosy Tsarabanjina, in the Mitsio Archipelago. It is directly on the sea, with white-sand beaches, a private beach area, sun loungers and parasols. Your villa is not a base beside a resort strip; it is part of an isolated island stay.

Fascene Airport is 24 miles away. Reaching the lodge involves a road transfer of around 15 minutes to Manga Soa Lodge, followed by a boat journey of 60 to 90 minutes. The boat is not a decorative extra to the journey: it is the final leg that gets you to the island, and sea conditions and flight schedules can alter the transfer arrangements.

The two villa categories are built around the same practical idea: your own space beside the beach, rather than a room in a main block. South Beach Villa and North Beach Villa both suit a couple who want a private terrace with deck chairs, a table and a beach view. Each can also accommodate three guests, making them workable for a small family or for anyone who prefers more room around the day’s kit and clothing.

Inside, air conditioning and a fan cover the warmer part of the day, while the mosquito net is a welcome detail in an island setting. There is a minibar, tea and coffee-making equipment, a coffee machine, a seating area and free Wi-Fi in the room. The private bathroom has a shower, toiletries, towels, bathrobes and a hairdryer. It is not a complicated room, and that is rather the point: cool down, rinse off, put your feet up and let the sea view handle the entertainment.

A private entrance, hardwood or parquet flooring and a terrace keep the villas connected to the outdoors without asking you to give up the useful basics. Daily housekeeping, luggage storage, laundry and ironing services are available, while a safe is provided for valuables. The villas are non-smoking.

All meals are covered by the all-inclusive formula, with breakfast, lunch and dinner served at Tsarabanjina Restaurant. Breakfast is a buffet; lunch and dinner bring together Malagasy and international cooking, with fresh local ingredients and seafood taking a clear place on the menu. Meals are served beside the beach, with the Indian Ocean in view and a relaxed barefoot dress code. In other words, there is no need to locate the one shirt that survived the week without salt on it.

There is one bar: The Bar. It serves cocktails, local drinks and light snacks, with seating overlooking the ocean and a white-sand floor. There is no fixed closing time; the bar team closes once the last guest has finished. Wine from around the world is also available to accompany meals, while the minibar and tea and coffee facilities give you something to reach for without leaving the villa.

The beach is the natural default here, with loungers and parasols ready for the stretch of the day when your best plan is to remain horizontal. When you want to move, the included activities cover snorkelling, stand-up paddleboarding, canoeing, beach volleyball, pétanque and sailing. Morning aqua-gym sessions take place in the sea, and a gym is available for a more conventional approach to exercise.

The Constance Spa occupies an eco-built kiosk in a natural setting. Treatments include massages, body scrubs and after-sun wraps, which is a sensible sequence after several days of salt, sun and the sort of tan line that does not match any item of clothing. The spa also offers relaxing, rejuvenating and detoxifying massage treatments.

You can add sport fishing and boat excursions to the day, while hikes, wildlife observation and cultural excursions provide reasons to leave the beach for a while. Board games are available at the bar for the evening, and the lodge also offers themed dinner nights. For honeymoon and wedding-anniversary stays, arrangements include a candlelit dinner on the beach or hill and a massage during the stay.

This is an island arrival, so the transfer deserves the same attention as the room choice. The route runs from Nosy Be airport to Manga Soa Lodge by road, then by boat to Tsarabanjina; the return follows the same pattern. Transfers are shared and organised around flight schedules, tides and sea conditions. The hotel needs your expected arrival time in advance, and last-minute changes can affect the boat timetable.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 16:00, with check-out from 10:30 to 12:00. Arrivals at Manga Soa Lodge after 16:00 cannot connect to the island by boat for security and legal reasons, so a night on Nosy Be or in Antananarivo may be needed. The first boat from the lodge to Nosy Be leaves at 05:30. If your onward flight leaves Nosy Be at 08:30 or earlier, staying the final night on Nosy Be is the sensible arrangement.

Wi-Fi is free throughout the lodge and in the rooms. The front desk operates around the clock, with currency exchange, luggage storage, laundry and ironing services available. Cash is not accepted. The lodge has no road access once you are on the island, so organise the transfer details before arrival rather than hoping to improvise them from the airport café.
