Happy Divers

Happy Divers is an established diving centre located in M'Tsangamouji, on the M'liha beach in the North-West of Mayotte. Since opening in 2006, the team has focused on the diverse marine environments of this region, from the sheltered lagoon to the deep outer barrier.

The centre is positioned to take advantage of the varied topography of the North-West, offering everything from shallow reef flats to dramatic drop-offs. Whether you are looking for the calm of the lagoon or the excitement of the open ocean, the local sites provide a high level of biodiversity and varied underwater landscapes.

The team is composed of state-qualified instructors who bring extensive local knowledge to every dive. They prioritise a structured approach to diving, beginning each excursion with a comprehensive briefing that includes site drawings, expected species, and specific safety instructions from the dive director.

Training is available for all ages, including dedicated programmes for children starting from age 6. For those looking to turn a passion into a career, the centre also provides instructor training up to the MF2 level.

After the dives are completed, the centre maintains a convivial atmosphere, hosting debriefings on the terrace where guests can enjoy traditional Mauritian tea and small cakes.

Happy Divers offers a comprehensive catalogue of certifications through multiple affiliations, including ANMP, FSGT, PADI, SSI, and CMAS. The training programme begins with Niveau 1 (PE20) and progresses through Niveau 2 (PE40 + PA20) and Niveau 3 (PA60), with specific modules for PE40, PA20, PA40, PE60, and PA60.

Beyond recreational levels, the centre provides the Permis côtier and advanced training for professional instructors, covering levels from Niveau 4 to MF2.

The fleet consists of three semi-rigid boats: the Roussette, l'Albatros, and le Sterne. Each vessel has a capacity for up to 20 divers, making them suitable for both small groups and larger excursions.

The boats are used for various types of diving, including day trips, night dives, and double-tank sessions. For those requiring transport, a pick-up service is available for groups of at least four divers per embarkation zone.

The centre maintains a well-equipped shore base with high-quality, regularly renewed kit. For those needing to hire equipment, a full range is available, including various wetsuit thicknesses from 3mm to 5mm (with or without hoods) and sizes ranging from XS to XXL. BCDs are provided in sizes from triple XS to XL, and a selection of steel and aluminium cylinders is kept on site, including 10L, 11L, 12L (short and long), and 15L options.

Technical reliability is supported by two insonorised BAUER PE550 compressors, capable of filling 66 m3/h across eight tanks. For safety and navigation, all-in-one SMB/spools are provided for every dive group.

The marine life in the North-West is incredibly diverse, ranging from the shallow reef flats to the deep walls. In the lagoon and on the fringing reefs, you will find a high density of colourful reef fish, including parrotfish, damselfish, and unicornfish. The area is also known for its unique macro life, where you can spot leaf fish, pipefish, syngnathids, and various species of shrimp.

For those interested in larger animals, the passes and the outer barrier offer sightings of sharks (Selachimorpha), rays (Batoidea), and occasionally dolphins. The sandy expanses and coral heads of the North Wall are particularly good for spotting sailfish, tuna (Thunnus), and large barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda).

In the crevices and under ledges, you can observe more specialised creatures such as crocodile fish, various species of crabs, and spiny lobsters. The coral architecture itself is a major draw, with a rich variety of hard and soft corals providing the foundation for this ecosystem.

Divers should be aware that the passes are known for having strong currents, which can make them more suitable for experienced divers. The water temperature remains warm, typically around 30°C.

The centre offers night diving, allowing you to experience the reef as the nocturnal species emerge.
