Desroches is a coral island, not a resort strip, and this is its only resort. Tropical gardens sit behind 14 km of white-sand beaches, with accommodation ranging from suites to large residence villas. The mood is polished but practical: private outdoor space, beach access, pools attached to some units and enough room to spread out without treating your suitcase like a second guest.

Couples can keep things simple in a pool villa or a beach-facing suite, while families and larger groups have residences with several bedrooms and living space. The island setting does the work rather than a parade of nearby attractions. You arrive for the sea, the sand and the slower rhythm; the resort gives you a comfortable base for all three.

You are in Desroches, Seychelles, on an island about 4 miles long. Desroches Island Beach is roughly 0.05 miles away, so reaching the sand is a matter of minutes rather than a daily expedition. The resort also has a private beach area and beachfront outdoor spaces.

Mahé lies about 143 miles away. Access is by a domestic flight of around 35 minutes from Mahé, with flights operating on scheduled daily services and extra frequency during busier periods. The practical point is simple: this is an island stay, so your arrival is part of the journey and needs arranging before you travel.

The accommodation is built around space and private outdoor living. Suites and villas have decked patios, terraces or balconies, and some open straight towards the beach or a private pool. Sea, garden and pool views are available across the accommodation range, so the right choice depends less on a label and more on how much of your holiday you want to spend outside your front door.

For two, the Sunset Beach King Suite puts the emphasis on beach access and a generous living area, while a Beach Pool Villa keeps things more self-contained. The Sunset View Pool Villa and Ocean View Pool Villa suit couples who want their own pool and a more defined outlook. Families and groups should look at the multi-bedroom residences or the two-bedroom presidential villa, where separate bedrooms and shared living areas make a long stay easier to organise.

Air conditioning matters when you come back warm, salty and ready to stop moving. Rooms also have a fan, a mosquito net, a refrigerator, an electric kettle and tea- and coffee-making facilities. A flat-screen television, satellite channels, a DVD player, free WiFi, a desk and a seating area cover the less glamorous but useful parts of the evening. Daily housekeeping, private bathrooms, bathrobes and slippers complete the practical side of the night.

You can also visit the island's Aldabra tortoise sanctuary or spend time at the Discovery Centre, where displays, 3D models and animal skeletons explain the island's vegetation and marine life. Those are useful diversions for a non-diving day, or for the travelling companion who prefers dry land.

The domestic flight from Mahé has limited seats and must be arranged through the resort's reservations team. Flights operate daily at scheduled times, and your expected arrival time should be shared with the property in advance. Private check-in and check-out, express check-in and check-out, a concierge and a 24-hour front desk keep the arrival process flexible around the island flight.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 20:00, while check-out is from 07:00 to 12:00. You need photo identification and a credit card at check-in. Children of any age are welcome; cots are available for babies up to two years old, depending on the accommodation selected, and there are no extra beds. The resort also accepts cash and does not allow pets.

Free WiFi is available in the rooms, and a minimarket, currency exchange, room service, laundry, dry cleaning, ironing and a business centre are available on site. The accommodation is on the ground floor, and daily housekeeping keeps the practical jobs from taking over the holiday.
