Set on the coast in the small town of Funtana, this is a resort for divers who want the practical pleasures around the diving: a proper meal, a cold drink, a balcony, and enough room for a day that does not end when you leave the water. The property was renovated in 2022 and is arranged across four pavilions that step down towards the beach.

The all-inclusive format keeps the stay straightforward, with meals, snacks, drinks and sports facilities built into the arrangement. You also have gardens, pools, a beach and evening entertainment in high season, so there is plenty happening without turning the place into a compulsory programme. Families are clearly catered for, but a couple can use the resort as a comfortable coastal base rather than joining every activity going.

Funtana Resort sits directly on the coast at Valkanela 2, in Funtana, Croatia. The sea is roughly 0.01 to 0.03 miles away, and the resort has direct access to natural beaches with sun loungers and parasols. Funtana town centre is about 0.2 miles away, close enough for a short wander when you fancy a change of scenery.

Valkanela Beach is about 0.3 miles away, while Funtana Beach is around 0.5 miles away on foot. Poreč is the nearest larger outing, with its main square and old town about 4 miles away; the Euphrasian Basilica is also 5 miles away. Aquacolours Poreč is about 2.5 miles away, and the Dušan Džamonja Sculpture Park sits roughly 1.2 miles from the resort.

The surrounding landscape gives you cycling and walking routes, plus Istrian olive-oil and wine roads leading towards the region’s largest vineyard. Pula Airport is about 24 miles away by car, and an airport shuttle can be arranged through the resort.

The accommodation was refurbished in 2022, and every room has the basics that matter when you return sun-warmed, salt-covered and ready to stop moving: air conditioning, a private bathroom with shower, a wardrobe, a refrigerator and free Wi-Fi. Balconies and views are part of the room set-up, with the resort’s natural landscape providing the outlook rather than a promise that every room faces the sea.

For two divers who prefer separate beds, the Standard Twin Room keeps things simple. Couples can choose a superior double arrangement with a king-size bed, while the Family Room is the practical choice when two adults and two children need more space and connected sleeping arrangements. The smaller single room suits solo travellers who would rather spend their time outside than pay for unused floor space.

The four pavilions cascade towards the beach, so the setting is naturally spread out rather than concentrated in one main block. Upper floors are reached by stairs only. That is worth keeping in mind when your legs have already done enough work for one day.

Two restaurants cover the main all-inclusive routine. Board Restoran Funtana serves buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner, with hot and cold dishes, fish, meat and Mediterranean flavours. Breakfast is a continental, vegetarian and buffet affair, giving you the sort of choice that works whether you want something light before a morning out or a more substantial plate after returning hungry.

Tramontana sits on the shaded poolside terrace and focuses on Istrian flavours, including pasta, risottos, meat dishes and assorted salads. It gives the food a more local accent without asking you to abandon the convenience of the resort plan.

A bar, a snack bar and an on-site coffee house round out the drinking and grazing options. Snacks and soft drinks are included in the all-inclusive service, so you have something between meals without needing to leave the resort in search of a sandwich.

The outdoor pools are designed for both adults and children, with views towards the sea and islands. Sun loungers and parasols are available by the natural beach, while the pool area adds another place to sit when you want a swim without committing to a full beach day. There is also a pool bar, which is precisely the sort of detail that saves a long, damp walk when you have finally found a comfortable chair.

For something more active, you have tennis, mini-golf, table tennis, billiards, darts and beach volleyball. Pedal boats and other water-sport facilities are available on site, and bicycle rental gives you a way to explore the coastal routes rather than merely admiring them from a balcony. Walking tours and tours about local culture are also available.

Evenings in high season bring dancing, live music, shows and training sessions, while children have indoor and outdoor play areas, a children’s pool and organised activities. If you are travelling as a couple, that combination gives you the option of an evening out on your own rather than spending every hour in the same company. A rare luxury, even on holiday.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to midnight, and check-out is from 07:00 to 10:00. You need photo identification and a credit card at check-in; guests under 18 must arrive with a parent or official guardian. There is no minimum age for check-in, and children of all ages are welcome. Children aged 12 and over are charged as adults, while cots for children aged up to two can be requested.

Free public parking is available on site, and free Wi-Fi covers the resort. An airport shuttle is available on request, while car hire can also be arranged. The nearest listed bus station is in Vrsar, about 2.2 miles away. Luggage storage, a tour desk, an ATM and a 24-hour front desk are useful if your arrival or departure does not fit neatly around the resort day.

The resort is not adapted for guests with disabilities, and upper floors are accessible by stairs only. Pets are not allowed. Those two points deserve attention before you book, particularly if stairs or accessibility affect your choice of accommodation.
