It is the sort of access where proper shoes earn their keep; flip-flops may be asked to do more work than they signed up for.

The sandy beach and harbour are about 800 metres away along the island. The harbour is where boat trips along the coast leave from, while San Domino’s piazza is roughly a 10-minute walk away, with bars, restaurants and shops. Da Elio Fish Bar is about 150 metres away, La Fenice about 300 metres, and A' Smerza Bar around 400 metres from the hotel.

The room choice matters here, particularly if you are travelling with family or simply prefer not to play underwater Tetris with bags, clothes and wet-weather gear. The Triple Room accommodates three, while the Quadruple Room gives four people a little more room to manoeuvre through the evening. For two divers, the Large Double or Twin Room offers twin beds rather than asking you to negotiate who gets the wall side.

Every room has air conditioning, a minibar, a television and a private bathroom with shower, bidet, hairdryer and complimentary toiletries. The refrigerator is useful for keeping water cold when you return tired and salt-streaked, while the air conditioning gives you a proper chance to cool down before dinner. Some rooms have a balcony overlooking the pinewood; garden views keep the outlook green rather than urban.

The nearby piazza gives you another option when you fancy leaving the property: bars, restaurants and shops are about a 10-minute walk away. That is close enough for a change of scene, but not so close that the evening has to follow the same route every night.

The outdoor pool is the obvious recovery station when the sea has taken enough of your energy for one day. A sun terrace, poolside bar, sun loungers, umbrellas and pool or beach towels keep the routine straightforward: swim, dry off, find a chair, and avoid making any decisions more complicated than necessary.

Cala Tramontana is accessible on foot by an unpaved path, giving you a second place to spend the afternoon when you want salt water without a boat trip. Snorkelling is available, and the hotel can advise on scuba-diving excursions from the island. Table tennis, bowls and sports equipment add something to do between swims, while a children's playground and kids' meals make the setting workable for mixed-age groups.

The hotel also offers excursions and has an animation team. A tour desk, concierge service and 24-hour reception can help organise the day, whether that means a coastal outing, a visit to the piazza or simply finding out what the island has planned.

San Domino Island Heliport is about 100 metres away on foot, making arrival unusually simple if you are flying in. A shuttle service is available, and luggage storage is useful when your arrival and departure do not line up neatly with the room. Tell the hotel your expected arrival time in advance.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to midnight, with photo identification and a credit card required at arrival. Check-out is from 09:00 to 10:00. Cash is accepted for payment.
