Hotel La Scaletta

Family-run for more than 50 years, Hotel La Scaletta puts you in the seaside part of Rome rather than in the city centre itself. You stay in the historic centre of Lido di Ostia, a few metres from the sea and close to the central square and pedestrian area. It is a practical base for a trip that mixes coastal air, easy meals and time in Rome.

Lido Centro railway station is about 1 km away on foot. From there, you can take the train towards central Rome or Ostia Antica; the journey to Rome's historic centre takes around 30 minutes. Ostia Antica's archaeological site is about 4 km away, giving you a proper change of scenery when ancient ruins appeal more than another stretch of promenade.

The choice is mainly about how much room you need and whether you want the sea in the view. A single room keeps things compact for solo travel, while the double or twin option suits a couple who want a simple base near the waterfront. Travelling as three, you will want the triple room rather than trying to make a double do a job it was never designed for.

Several rooms face the sea, including double and triple options, which changes the feel of the stay more than another line in a facilities list. Air conditioning matters when you come back warm and tired from the coast, and heating is available for cooler days. You also have a refrigerator, wardrobe, desk, private shower room with bidet and hairdryer, plus free WiFi and a flat-screen TV with cable and satellite channels.

The nearby parks and coastal areas give you further options around Ostia, including Castel Fusano Beach and the Castel Porziano coastal strip.

Fiumicino Airport is around a 15-minute drive away, and an airport shuttle is available to arrange with the hotel. A shuttle service is also offered for local transfers. If you are travelling by train, Lido Centro station is about 1 km away on foot, while bus stops on the seafront are within a few minutes' walk.

Check-in runs from 13:30 to 23:30, and you need to tell the hotel your expected arrival time. Check-out is from 06:00 to 10:30, useful if your flight or onward journey starts early.
