The hotel team speaks English as well as Italian, so practical conversations about your stay do not need to be conducted through hand signals and hopeful smiles.

Via Roma places you in Chianalea, the pedestrian-only district of Scilla, in Calabria, Italy. The sandy Spiaggia Di Scilla is 50 metres away, with sun loungers and parasols available, while Lido Chianalea Scilla is about 600 metres on foot. Castello Ruffo di Scilla is 300 metres away, giving you a proper local landmark rather than another anonymous resort fence to look at.

You can reach Scilla railway station in about 0.6 miles on foot. Reggio di Calabria Tito Minniti Airport is roughly 16 miles away by road. The setting also gives you access to nearby cafés and restaurants, while Aspromonte lies about 9 miles away by road for a change of scenery when the sea has had enough of you for one day.

The accommodation works particularly well when you want more than a bed and a narrow strip of floor for your luggage. Every unit has a kitchenette with a hob, oven, kitchenware and refrigerator, plus a dining area or seating area. That is handy for keeping water cold, making a quick meal or simply spreading out without having to sit on the edge of the bed.

The nearest sandy beach is only 50 metres away, with loungers and parasols available for the essential post-dive ritual: horizontal, shaded and not required to make decisions. Snorkelling, kayaking and paddleboarding are available, and equipment rental makes those options more realistic than merely admiring them from the shoreline. Boat excursions are another way to see the coast without putting on a pair of fins.

On land, you can walk or cycle, take a cultural excursion or visit Chianalea itself. The village setting is the main attraction here: you can wander rather than organise an entire expedition every time you leave the property. A packed lunch is available when the plan is to stay out, and the nearby coast gives couples plenty of reasons to split the day between activity and sitting down.

For a quieter evening, the accommodation provides the basics that matter more than a long entertainment programme: a private balcony or terrace in selected units, a seating area, air conditioning and free WiFi. There is no need to fill every hour. Sometimes the correct post-dive activity is a shower, a cold drink and a chair that does not move.

Chianalea is pedestrian-only, so you cannot drive directly to the door. The closest free car park is about 400 metres away; staff can help with your luggage on request and luggage storage is available. An airport transfer can be arranged on request, and car rental is available if you plan to explore beyond Scilla.

Check-in runs from 15:00 to 19:00, and you need to tell the property your expected arrival time in advance. Check-out is from 08:30 to 10:30. Bring photo identification and a credit card for check-in; cash is not accepted, and payment before arrival by bank transfer is required.

Smoking is not allowed, parties and events are not permitted, and pets can stay on request.
