Kaptan Hotel

One of Alanya's oldest hotels, Kaptan Hotel sits on the eastern side of the ancient peninsula, with the harbour forming the main visual cue. This is a practical town base with a bit of history attached, rather than a self-contained beach complex where every evening looks much the same.

For a diving trip, the appeal is straightforward: air-conditioned rooms, balconies, a restaurant, a bar, an outdoor pool and the town close at hand. You can return from the sea, cool down, eat without arranging another journey and still step out into Alanya when you fancy a change of scenery.

The hotel also works for a couple who would rather mix water time with old stone, harbour walks and Turkish food. Family rooms are available, while the standard double or twin arrangement suits two adults who prefer separate beds rather than a wrestling match over the duvet.

You are in Alanya, Turkey, on the eastern side of the historic peninsula and close to the harbour. Alanya Public Beach is about 0.3 miles away on foot, while Kleopatra Beach is about 0.8 miles away on foot. The hotel is therefore close to the coast, but it is not a beachside property with sand directly outside the entrance.

The Red Tower is about 400 metres away, and the Mustafa Kemal Atatürk Monument is around 0.4 miles away. Alanya Archaeological Museum is about 0.7 miles away, while Alanya Castle is roughly 1 mile away on foot. You can make a proper day of it without turning every outing into a transport exercise.

For a change of landscape, Dimçay is about 5 miles away by road. The bus station is around 1.7 miles away on foot, and several bars and cafés sit close to the hotel, including Lambada Bar and Carpe Dıem Bar.

The standard double or twin room is arranged with two single beds, a balcony and a private bathroom with a shower or bath, toiletries, slippers and a hairdryer. That separate-bed layout is useful when a dive buddy is a dive buddy and not a life partner. Family rooms are also available for larger travelling groups.

Air conditioning matters in Alanya, particularly when you return warm, salty and ready to stop functioning for an hour. Rooms also have a minibar, an electric kettle, satellite television, a seating area and a desk, so you can put your feet up, make a hot drink or deal with the least urgent messages from home. Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel at no extra charge.

Balcony views vary between the sea, harbour surroundings, city, pool and garden. Soundproof rooms are available, which is worth considering if you value sleep more than a late-night soundtrack from town. Daily housekeeping, a wardrobe and a lift to upper floors keep the practical side uncomplicated.

The main restaurant serves an à la carte menu built around Turkish and international cuisine. It is the useful option when your appetite has caught up with the day's diving and you would rather sit down on site than start comparing menus in the street.

Breakfast comes as a buffet, with panoramic views of the surrounding area. Breakfast in your room is also available, a sensible alternative when an early start has left you more interested in coffee than conversation.

There is a bar and a snack bar, plus minibars in the rooms. That gives you somewhere to order a drink or pick at something lighter without turning every hunger pang into a formal meal. Room service is available as well.

The outdoor swimming pool is the main place to cool off without heading back to the beach. It gives you an easy option for a low-effort afternoon: swim a little, sit down, and avoid pretending that every hour of a holiday needs an itinerary.

Table tennis adds a modest competitive outlet for couples or dive buddies who still have enough energy to keep score. Bicycle rental is available if you want to cover more ground than your post-dive legs would normally permit.

Alanya itself supplies the more substantial non-diving programme. The Red Tower, castle, archaeological museum and lighthouse are all within reach, while Dimçay offers a different setting farther out. Back at the hotel, the pool and balcony provide the simpler version of the afternoon: no timetable, no fins, no heroic plans.

Gazipaşa-Alanya Airport is about 25 miles from the hotel by road. Antalya Airport is about 81 miles away. An airport shuttle and a general shuttle service are available through the hotel, and car hire can also be arranged. Free public parking is available on site, with no reservation needed.

Check-in starts from 14:00 and check-out runs until 12:00. The reception is open around the clock, with express check-in and check-out, luggage storage and currency exchange. That is useful if your departure and your room time do not line up neatly, as airport logistics rarely show much respect for a diver's preferred schedule.

Children of any age are welcome, and there is no age requirement for check-in. Cots and extra beds can be requested, subject to the room option and availability. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities, accessible upper floors by lift and bathrooms with grab rails in the relevant facilities. Cash is accepted, and a safety deposit box is available.
