The practical advantage is simple: you can return from the day, cool down in air conditioning, order room service at any hour and still have somewhere to sit above the city. This is not a hotel where you step straight from your room onto the sand; the Corniche and its beaches are outings, not the front doorstep.

The surrounding area is useful rather than isolated. Heritage Park is about 0.5 miles away, with Electra Park around 0.7 miles away, and cafés and restaurants sit within a short walk. Marina Mall is 3.8 miles away, Qasr al-Hosn is 2 miles away and the Louvre Abu Dhabi is 2.5 miles away. Ferrari World and Yas Waterworld are around 20 minutes by car, giving you options for a non-diving day without making the hotel your entire universe.

The room choice comes down to how much space and separation you want after a day in the water. A Deluxe room works for two, with either a king-size bed or twin beds; the Executive rooms give you more room to spread out, while the suite is the sensible choice for a couple who would rather not live entirely around the bed and dive bags. Families have a Family Suite, and the Pet Friendly Suite combines a super-king bed with a sofa bed.

Several rooms face the city and others offer a partial sea view, so choose the outlook rather than assuming every room looks across open water. The accessible king room has a roll-in shower and can accommodate up to three guests. Families can be accommodated up to four in the relevant suite options, while children of all ages are welcome; extra beds and cots are available on request and depend on the selected room.

After diving, that counts as an activity of respectable difficulty.

The wellness facilities cover the useful basics: a spa and wellness centre, hot tub, sauna and fitness centre. Massage treatments include full-body, back, neck, head, hand and foot options, as well as couples massage. If one of you wants movement and the other wants a treatment, you can split up without having to organise a city-wide expedition.

For a more local change of scene, Heritage Park is within walking distance, while Qasr al-Hosn and the Louvre Abu Dhabi are short car journeys away. Themed dinner nights and the rooftop setting keep the evening on site when that is the better option.
