Rixos Marina Abu Dhabi is built for a stay where the hotel does much of the organising for you. You have a beachfront setting, a private beach area, several places to eat and drink, and enough wellness space to make a non-diving day feel properly occupied rather than merely endured.

Couples can keep things simple with a sea-view room, a meal and a massage, while families have interconnected rooms, family suites, a kids' club for children aged 4 to 12, indoor and outdoor play areas, and children's entertainment. There is also a fitness centre, yoga and Pilates, although nobody will object if your main post-dive exercise is walking towards dinner.

You are in Abu Dhabi, on Marina Mall Ring Road, with the hotel directly on the beachfront and its own private beach area. This is a city stay with sea access, not a remote island base: the Corniche and the city’s landmarks remain within reach, while the marina setting gives you somewhere to look beyond the hotel walls.

Abu Dhabi Eye is about 0.7 miles away and Heritage Village about 0.8 miles. Qasr Al Hosn is roughly 2.1 miles from the hotel, and the Louvre Abu Dhabi around 6 miles, so an afternoon can easily be spent away from the resort without turning into an expedition. Nearby cafés and restaurants are also available, including X-Presse Cafe, Yacht Cafe Gourmet Restaurant, Fuddruckers and Tandoor Inn.

For flights, Al Bateen Executive Airport is about 11 miles away by road, while Zayed International Airport is roughly 23 miles away by road.

The standard double rooms are sensible choices for a diving couple: several categories use a super-king bed, and you can choose between a straightforward room, a sea view, a Corniche view or a balcony, depending on the category. The sea-view options make the most sense if you expect to spend time on the balcony or simply want the water outside rather than another corridor or roofline.

Air conditioning matters in Abu Dhabi, particularly when you return warm, salty and ready to stop moving. Rooms have private bathrooms with a bath or shower, bathrobes, slippers and toiletries, along with a minibar, coffee machine and kettle. A seating area and desk give you somewhere to sort the day’s photographs or deal with the unavoidable dive-centre messages.

If you are travelling with family or another couple, the larger suites and family rooms provide more useful separation than simply adding another bed to a standard room. Family rooms, interconnected rooms and suites with more than one bathroom are available, while soundproof rooms are also part of the accommodation range. The larger family options are the ones to look at when luggage, wet clothes and differing sleep schedules would otherwise turn one room into a minor logistics exercise.

Food is spread across several hotel venues rather than confined to one dining room. The Bakery Club serves international food from breakfast through dinner, Infinity Lounge also covers the three main meals, and Terra Mare offers breakfast, lunch and dinner with published service periods. Breakfast is broad enough for different routines and diets, with continental, full English and Irish, vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free, Asian and American choices served buffet-style.

Dinner gives you more choice than the usual post-dive buffet shuffle. The Hashi Restaurant focuses on Japanese food on selected evenings, Vero Italiano covers Italian dishes, and The Flame Steakhouse is planned for a future opening. Two other listed restaurants, Turquoise Restaurant and People's Restaurant, are temporarily closed, so check what is operating during your dates rather than building an entire holiday around one particular menu.

For drinks and lighter stops, anti:dote bar specialises in cocktails and Isla Beach Bar sits by the beach. There are also pool bars, People's Bar, Privé Lounge, an ice-cream kiosk, a fruit kiosk and Graze & Go. Room service, a snack bar, a coffee house and breakfast in the room give you alternatives when changing into proper clothes feels like an unreasonable demand.

The easiest non-diving plan is straightforward: use the outdoor swimming pool, settle on a sun lounger or beach chair, and let the day become pleasantly unproductive. The beachfront and garden add space outside, with outdoor furniture and an outdoor fireplace for a change of scenery. Entertainment staff and themed dinner nights provide more structure when you have had enough of staring at the water.

The Naturelife Spa is the serious recovery option. It offers massage, facial treatments, a hammam, sauna, Jacuzzi, mud bath and body wraps, with a relaxation lounge and foot bath as well. Couples can book a couples massage, while separate head, neck, back, foot, hand and full-body massages cover the more specific complaints produced by carrying too much equipment.

For a more active day, the fitness centre offers fitness classes, personal training, yoga and Pilates, and tennis is available on site. Families have a kids' club, children's entertainment, an indoor play area and a playground, which leaves adults free to use the spa or finish a coffee without conducting a headcount every thirty seconds.

Check-in starts at 3:00 pm and check-out is by 12:00 pm. A 24-hour front desk, concierge service, luggage storage, lockers, currency exchange and an on-site cash machine make the arrival and departure mechanics fairly manageable, particularly if your flight times do not line up neatly with the room. Airport shuttle service is available and should be arranged with the hotel.

Private parking is available on site, with valet parking, and car hire can be arranged. WiFi is free throughout the property. Daily housekeeping, room service, laundry, dry cleaning and ironing services are also available when a wet dive kit is not the only thing that needs sorting.

Children of all ages are welcome, although children aged 12 and over are treated as adults for the accommodation policy. Cots and extra beds can be requested, subject to the selected room and availability. The minimum age for check-in is 18, pets are not allowed, and every guest, including children, must present an original valid passport or Emirates ID at check-in. A security deposit is required on arrival, with the amount depending on the meal plan and length of stay.
