Pleasure Divers Magnetic Island

Located in Arcadia, Pleasure Divers has been a fixture of the Magnetic Island diving community since 1994. The centre is uniquely positioned for divers who prefer shore-based entries, with the local dive sites situated directly across from the shop.

This approach allows for a relaxed, flexible diving experience within the protected waters of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. As the oldest dive centre on the island, they bring decades of local knowledge to every outing, whether you are exploring shallow reef flats or heading out for more advanced sites.

Managed by Chad and Haylie, the centre operates with a focus on ocean therapy and a relaxed atmosphere. They are an SSI affiliated centre, providing a structured pathway for students through all levels of certification.

Environmental stewardship is central to their operations. As members of Green Fins, the team follows sustainable practices designed to minimise the impact of diving and snorkelling on the local coral ecosystems.

The centre provides a comprehensive range of SSI courses. Beginners can start with an Introductory Dive or work through the Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water certifications.

For more experienced divers, the curriculum includes Rescue Diver, Divemaster, and various specialties such as Navigation, Wreck Diving, and Night & Limited Visibility. They also offer niche training like Perfect Buoyancy, the Science of Diving, and ecology-focused courses covering Coral ID and Nudibranchs.

The centre offers a full range of equipment hire for those not travelling with their own kit. This includes regulators, wetsuits, fins, and torches for night diving.

For training purposes, the centre is home to the only on-site training pool on Magnetic Island and the surrounding Townsville region, making it an ideal base for those working through their initial certifications.

The local reefs are characterised by a vibrant array of hard and soft corals, providing the structural foundation for a busy ecosystem. You will regularly encounter various reef fish, crustaceans, and large conques moving across the seabed.

Macro life enthusiasts will find plenty to observe, particularly nudibranchs and various echinoderms. The area is also a reliable spot for seeing sea turtles and various species of rays.

In the deeper sections and around wrecks, larger pelagic life and predators become more common. You can expect to see barracuda, moray eels, and various shark species, including blacktip sharks and wobbegongs.

Diving in the area is subject to local conditions, with visibility typically ranging between 4 and 6 metres. Currents can become moderate at Geoffrey Bay, and the SS Yongala site is known for having strong currents.
