Pousada La Portella is a small inn with 28 rooms, aimed at travellers who want a straightforward base in Cabo Frio rather than a resort programme to keep them busy from breakfast onwards.

You stay in Praia do Forte, Cabo Frio, on Brazil’s coast, with the beach 50 metres away. Praia do Forte is a sandy beach with sun loungers and parasols, so the route from your room to the shore is short enough to manage before the day gets properly warm.

Water Square is about 600 metres away, and Porto Rocha Square is roughly 350 metres from the pousada. The Surf Museum is around 700 metres away, with Praça das Águas and Itajuru Fountain Park both within about 1 km. Sao Mateus Fort is about 2 km away. Restaurants are close enough for a change of scene: Cabo Grill is roughly 200 metres away on foot, while Frutos de Goias Cabo Frio and Brigaderia da Vovo are each about 250 metres away.

For a wider look at the coast, Foguete Beach is about 2.5 miles away by road, Brava Beach about 5 miles, and Pero Beach about 4 miles. The location puts you in town, beside the main beach, with Cabo Frio’s sights and places to eat within walking distance.

The room choice is practical rather than theatrical. The Classic Triple Room is the one to consider when three people are travelling together, with a double bed and a single bed rather than a nightly argument over who gets the sofa. For two, the Deluxe Queen Room provides a simpler arrangement with twin single beds.

Whichever option suits your party, you get air conditioning, a private bathroom with a shower and complimentary toiletries, a minibar, television, wardrobe space and a desk. Free WiFi reaches every area of the hotel, useful for checking the next day’s arrangements or simply ignoring them for a while. The rooms are non-smoking.

Families are welcome, and children of any age can stay. Children aged three and over are charged as adults, while cots and extra beds are not available, so the existing beds need to work for your group. A ground-floor unit is available, while some upper-floor rooms are reached by stairs only.

For an evening beyond the pousada, Cabo Grill is about 200 metres away, with two other named restaurants within roughly 250 metres. The surrounding streets make it easy to vary the routine without turning dinner into an expedition.

Praia do Forte is the obvious non-diving plan: a short walk, sand under your feet, and loungers and parasols for the hours when you have no interest in carrying anything heavier than a book. The town gives you more to do without demanding a full-day excursion. Water Square, the Surf Museum and the nearby squares are all within an easy walk.

For a little more history, Sao Mateus Fort is about 2 km away. Itajuru Fountain Park is roughly 1 km from the pousada, while Praça das Águas is about 1 km away as well. These are useful places for a gentle stroll when your legs have had enough of fins but not enough of movement.

Bicycle rental is available, and car hire can be arranged. That gives you a practical way to reach beaches farther along the coast, including Foguete, Brava and Pero, rather than trying to turn every outing into a long walk in beach footwear.

Cabo Frio International Airport is about 7 km from the pousada. An airport shuttle is available to arrange with the hotel, and a shuttle service can also be organised for local transfers. Car hire is available if you want to explore beyond Praia do Forte; luggage storage is useful around arrival and departure days.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 00:00, and check-out is from 00:00 to 12:00. There is no age requirement for check-in, and cash is an accepted payment method. Pets are not allowed.
