This is a 60-room hotel in the Barra da Tijuca area, with family rooms, a swimming pool, a restaurant, and staff who speak English, Spanish and Portuguese. You should be understood without turning every request into a small linguistic expedition.

The hotel suits couples, families and travellers who want Rio on the doorstep rather than an isolated resort routine. In other words, the useful bits are covered: somewhere to leave the car, somewhere to cool down, and someone available when your arrival does not quite follow the plan.

For getting around, Jardim Oceânico metro station is about half a mile away on foot. Barra Shopping Centre is around 4 miles from the hotel, and Rio de Janeiro city centre is about 9 miles away. Pomar da Barra Square is a five-minute walk, with restaurants including Balada Mix and Padano nearby, so dinner does not have to become an expedition of its own.

The surrounding area also gives you options beyond the beach. Tijuca Lake is about 2 miles away, while Bosque da Barra Park and Tijuca Forest National Park are both around 4 miles from the hotel. The city is still the main event, but you can reach green spaces when concrete starts to feel like too much of a theme.

The room choice is mainly about how many people need to sleep without negotiating for mattress space. Couples can keep things simple with a double or twin arrangement, while the triple and quadruple rooms make more sense for families or groups travelling together. The quadruple layout combines a double bed with two single beds, which is more useful than trying to make three or four adults share one sleeping arrangement. Family rooms are available.

There is also a gym for keeping the legs moving when the day's walking has not quite done the job.

At the beach, you can go beyond simply placing a towel on the sand: snorkelling, kayaking, paddleboarding and boat excursions are available, with equipment rental also offered. The beach is about 0.3 miles away, close enough to make a short outing possible without sacrificing the rest of the day.

For a change of scenery, the hotel offers excursions to Rio de Janeiro and Tijuca Forest. Hiking, wildlife observation and cultural excursions are also part of the available activities. Families have access to babysitting and a children's menu, while children of any age are welcome; a cot can be requested for younger children.
