Emerald Coast Scuba

Located in Destin, Florida, Emerald Coast Scuba has been a staple of the local diving community since 1992. This family-run operation has spent over three decades refining its approach to both recreational training and professional career development. The centre is strategically positioned for easy access to the Gulf, with its dive boats docked less than one mile from the shop.

As a PADI 5 Star Career Development Center, the facility is designed to support divers at every stage of their journey. Whether you are looking to complete your first certification or are working towards professional instructor ratings, the infrastructure is in place to support serious progression. The centre combines a large 5,000-square-foot retail space with dedicated training facilities, including a 14-foot deep heated pool for skills practice.

The team is led by Anna Schmitz, a PADI Course Director who has been teaching since 1989, alongside Tom, an engineer and boat captain. This blend of instructional expertise and maritime technical knowledge ensures that both the training and the boat operations are handled with professional precision.

Instruction is structured to maintain high safety standards, with a guide ratio of one instructor for every four divers. This allows for close supervision during technical training or when navigating more complex wreck environments. The centre is also a recognized provider for various educational programmes, including those approved for VA educational benefits.

Emerald Coast Scuba provides a complete spectrum of PADI training, from the initial Discover Scuba Diving programme through to Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver certifications. The curriculum extends into various specialty courses, including Enriched Air (EANx) and the PADI Seal Team programme for younger divers.

For those looking to turn diving into a profession, the centre acts as a Career Development Center. They offer the full range of professional pathways, including Divemaster, Instructor, and various specialty ratings. The on-site 14-foot heated pool provides an ideal environment for honing skills before heading out to the boats.

The centre operates three USCG-classed vessels for its daily charters. These boats serve as the primary platform for accessing the offshore wrecks and artificial reefs that define the Emerald Coast.

Daily charters are available throughout the spring, summer, and autumn, with specialised monthly trips organised specifically for deep wreck diving. Nitrox is available for divers looking to extend their bottom time during these excursions.

The 5,000-square-foot shop serves as a full-service hub for the local diving community. It offers professional equipment servicing, retail sales, and gas fills for both air and Enriched Air Nitrox (EANx).

For those travelling without their own kit, a full range of rental equipment is available, including regulators, BCDs, wetsuits, and fins. The facility is well-equipped to handle the needs of both local residents and visiting divers requiring reliable gear for their offshore trips.

Daily charters are most common during the spring, summer, and autumn months. For divers specifically interested in the deeper wreck sites, specialised trips are organised on a monthly basis.
