Located at the heart of Florida's Emerald Coast, ScubaTech Destin provides access to one of the most diverse dive playgrounds in the southeastern United States. The centre is situated right on the Destin Harbor, providing a direct gateway to the Gulf of Mexico through the iconic Destin Pass.

This narrow channel serves as the starting point for every charter, where the bay meets the open sea. Beyond the Pass, the landscape opens up into a variety of underwater environments, ranging from natural limestone ledges to purpose-built artificial reefs and historic shipwrecks.

Since its founding in 1986 by Capt. Nancy Birchett, ScubaTech has operated as a female-founded and female-owned business. This long-standing presence in the Destin diving community is built on a foundation of professionalism and safety.

The team consists of four instructors dedicated to providing high-quality guidance for all levels of experience. Whether you are working through your first certification or looking for an expertly guided exploration of a local wreck, the staff brings decades of local knowledge to every dive.

As an SSI affiliated centre, ScubaTech offers a comprehensive range of training programmes. Beginners can start with the Open Water Diver course, while those looking to expand their capabilities can progress through Advanced and Rescue levels.

The curriculum also includes specialized training such as Nitrox, as well as Refresher courses and Referral services for divers moving between agencies. For those requiring formal safety training, CPR courses are also available on-site.

The Sea Cobra is the centre's USCG-inspected dive vessel and serves as the primary platform for all charters. Designed specifically for scuba diving, she is configured for fast turnarounds and easy water entries.

The boat is equipped with easy-access dive ladders and tank racks to streamline the process of getting in and out of the water. For comfort between dives, the Sea Cobra features a covered cabin for sun protection, a cooler space, and a water refill station. Onboard, you will also find freshwater rinse tanks for your masks and camera housings, alongside dedicated onboard O2 and first-aid equipment.

The centre provides a range of rental equipment for those not travelling with their own kit, including wetsuits, fins, masks, and snorkels. Full rental packages are available for divers needing a complete setup.

For those maintaining their own equipment, ScubaTech offers various servicing and maintenance options. This includes cylinder hydro tests, O2 cleaning, and valve rebuilds, as well as first and second-stage regulator servicing and full-face mask labour.

The waters around the Destin Pass are lively, with bottlenose dolphin pods and leaping mullet frequently seen near the surface. Sea turtles are also a regular presence in these waters.

The local reefs and wrecks support a variety of marine life, providing an engaging environment for watching pelagic species and reef dwellers alike.

The best time to dive in this region is from May through October. During this period, visibility regularly reaches 40 feet or more, making it an ideal window for wreck and reef exploration.

Divers should be mindful of the passage through the Destin Pass, where the meeting of the bay and the Gulf can create active conditions.
