Underwater Works Inc. has been a fixture of the Alabama diving community since 1984. Based in Fairhope, the centre provides access to the South East region of Alabama, which boasts the largest artificial reef programme in the United States. This unique underwater landscape is composed of a diverse mix of coral reefs, shipwrecks, oil rigs, and military surplus vessels.

Whether you are looking to start your training or are an experienced diver seeking wreck or night diving opportunities, the centre is positioned to support your progress. The local environment offers a varied playground for both underwater photographers and those interested in spearfishing.

The instruction team at Underwater Works brings over 40 years of combined teaching experience to the water. They focus on thorough, high-quality training designed to build competent, confident divers rather than simply issuing certification cards.

Classes are kept small to ensure individual attention, with a maximum of six divers per guide. This ratio allows for a controlled learning environment, whether you are training in their on-site heated pool or heading out for open water sessions.

As an SSI Platinum centre, Underwater Works offers a complete range of certifications. Beginners can start with Try Scuba or the Open Water Diver course, which provides a worldwide certification with a maximum depth rating of 60 feet.

Advanced divers can progress through the Advanced Open Water Diver, Master Diver, and Dive Leader pathways. The curriculum also includes a variety of specialty courses such as Deep Diving, Wreck Diving, Navigation, Night & Limited Visibility Diving, Cavern, and Dry Suit Diving. For those looking to refine their skills, Equipment Techniques and Computer Diving are also available.

The centre operates a full-service dive shop and is an authorized Scubapro Platinum Dealer. You will find a wide range of kit from brands including Sherwood, Genesis, Ikelite, Ocean Reef, and Akona. For those interested in spearfishing, they stock specialist equipment from Riffe, A.B. Biller, and JBL.

An on-site service facility is available for equipment repairs, managed by trained technicians. They also buy and sell used equipment and offer a price match service for online retailers. For gas needs, the centre has been providing Enriched Air Nitrox fills since 1992 and is certified to handle all compressed gas cylinders.
