Manta Diving Madeira is situated directly within the underwater marine park in Caniço de Baixo. This prime location means you can step from the centre straight into the water to access six of the best local sites, with depths ranging from 4 to 34 metres.

The centre has earned significant recognition, including being named the Best Dive Centre in the Atlantic and receiving awards from the President of Madeira. It is the only school in the region to hold both EN14467 and ISO 24803 certifications, ensuring a high standard of training and safety.

The centre operates with a professional team focused on high-standard instruction and safety. They provide training across a wide spectrum, from initial certifications to specialised skills.

They offer a variety of programmes including Freediving and advanced specialties. For those looking to extend their technical capabilities, they provide courses such as the PADI Deep Diver Specialty and Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD).

The training programme covers the full range of diver development. You can begin with introductory courses and progress through to Advanced Open Water Diver (AOWD) and the PADI Deep Diver Specialty.

Beyond recreational scuba, the centre also provides Freediving training for those looking to master breath-hold diving.

For sites further afield, the centre organises boat excursions to reach the most iconic locations in the area. These trips include the wreck of the Afonso Cerqueira and the T-Riff cones.

The centre maintains a modern rental fleet, with regulators, BCDs, torches, and dive computers renewed every two years. This ensures you are diving with reliable, up-to-date kit.

Full equipment hire is available on-site, covering everything from wetsuits to fins, making it easy to travel light.

The marine life is dominated by large pelagics and resident predators. You will regularly encounter schools of barracuda, mackerel, and bream, alongside dusky groupers and various species of rays. During the summer months, Manta rays are known to pass through the area.

The reef architecture is rich with life, featuring black coral, stone sponges, and white hammer anemones. You can find various species of wrasse, lizardfish, and scorpionfish amongst the volcanic rock formations.

For macro enthusiasts, the crevices and caves offer a wealth of smaller creatures. Look closely for ghost crabs, arrow crabs, nudibranchs, and various species of shrimp, including cleaner shrimp and Atlantic dancer shrimp. You may also spot Mediterranean scissors shrimp, reef lobsters, and various species of sea slugs.

The centre is open ten months of the year, from 1 March to 6 January. The best time to see Manta rays is during the summer months.

Some sites, such as T-coast, experience a light west-to-east current. Certain locations, like the Baixa da Cruz site, are weather-dependent and require optimal wind and sea conditions to visit.
