Constance Tekoma - Rodrigues Island

Somewhere between a coastal lodge and a well-kept base for island days, Constance Tekoma Rodrigues puts you straight beside the sea at Anse Ally. The atmosphere is warm and Creole rather than formal, with the ocean doing most of the decorating. You get a beachfront setting, a garden, an outdoor pool and the sort of low-key layout that suits a couple who would rather hear the wind than a timetable of organised entertainment.

This is a particularly natural fit if your holiday needs to work on land as well as in the water. You can swim, walk, take a boat out, explore the island’s caves and return to a proper restaurant and bar without turning the evening into a logistical exercise. Port Mathurin is a 20-minute drive, so the lodge is not a town-base with a beach attached. It is a coastal address where you can stay put or use a car for exploring. Three restaurants — Chez Solange Et Robert, Madame Larose and Basanio Snack Boutique — are within roughly 0.7 miles, while Jardin des Cinq Sens is about 6 miles away by road. The island’s quieter geography is part of the arrangement: fewer quick errands, more reason to settle in.

The accommodation is built around two-person villas, which keeps the choice pleasantly simple for couples. Pick an Ocean View Villa if the outlook matters most, or look at the Beachfront Villa if stepping straight towards the shore is the deciding factor. The Superior Ocean View Villa gives you more room to spread out, while every villa is designed for two rather than for squeezing extra bodies into a nominal double room.

Air conditioning matters here, particularly when you come back warm, salty and ready to stop moving. The rooms also have a minibar, an electric kettle, a flat-screen television with satellite channels, a balcony or terrace and soundproofing. A private bathroom comes with a hairdryer and complimentary toiletries. There is a fan as well, so you have another way to keep the air moving at night.

For a longer stay, the minibar and kettle are useful little details rather than brochure decoration: cold drinks and a cup of tea are available without another walk across the property. Car hire is also available, which is useful if you want to reach the beaches, gardens and inland sights under your own steam.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 22:00, and you need to tell the property when you expect to arrive. Check-out is from 08:00 to 12:00. Early check-in and late check-out can be requested.
