Sunny Rabac by Valamar sits on the St Andrea Peninsula, shaded by pine forest and built for a straightforward seaside break. The beach is close enough to make the decision about your afternoon rather easy.

English, German and Croatian are spoken by the hotel team. That matters when you are arriving tired, discussing a room detail or trying to establish what is actually included in your board arrangement. The atmosphere is geared towards couples and families alike, with a kids’ club, children’s activities, an indoor play area and a games room alongside the more grown-up business of swimming, eating and sitting down properly.

The hotel was renovated in 2023 and has 360 rooms. It is a sizeable property rather than a small hideaway, so you choose it for the practical mix of beach access, on-site facilities and an easy base in Rabac.

Rabac is the actual address, on Croatia’s Adriatic coast. The hotel is directly by the sea, with a pebble beach reached from the property and equipped with sun loungers and parasols. St Andrea Beach is about 250 metres away by the walking route, while Lanterna Beach is roughly 600 metres away. Girandella Beach is about 750 metres away.

Rabac centre is around 700 metres from the hotel, close enough for an evening stroll rather than a logistical exercise. You also have named restaurants within roughly 150 metres, including La Pentola Trattoria and Craft Beer & Grill, with Restaurant Capitano about 400 metres away. For a coffee or a drink outside the hotel, Pedena II Bar and Vanilija Rabac are both within about 400 metres on foot.

The setting gives you more than one sort of shore time. A direct pebble beach is there for a quick swim, while the coast around Rabac gives you several nearby beaches to vary the scenery. Historic sites around Labin are also within reach, including Labin Kula at about 3 miles from the hotel.

For two, the standard double room keeps things simple: a king-size bed, private bathroom and the essentials for getting cleaned up and horizontal. The rooms are air-conditioned, with a flat-screen TV using satellite channels, a wardrobe and bed-side power socket. After a warm day by the water, the air conditioning is the useful detail; the television is there if your evening ambition extends no further than sitting down.

If three people are sharing, choose one of the options with a sofa bed rather than trying to make a double room perform a job it was not designed for. The Superior Room 2+1 gives you a king-size bed and sofa bed, while the seaside version adds the view that makes the room choice worth considering. These rooms are compact, so three adults should expect efficient rather than expansive living space. For a couple, that is less of an issue; for three divers with luggage, sensible packing will help.

Bathrooms are private and include either a shower or a bath, together with towels, toiletries and a hairdryer. Non-smoking rooms are available, and upper floors can be reached by lift. The property also has luggage storage, useful if your departure and check-out do not line up neatly with the rest of your day.

Restaurant Oliveto handles breakfast, lunch and dinner on its terrace, with Mediterranean cooking and a sea view. Breakfast is a buffet with vegetarian and gluten-free choices, so you can build something substantial before heading out rather than relying on a heroic amount of coffee. Half-board is available.

There is also a practical point to check when you book: the property is presented with both a half-board arrangement and Sunny Full Board. Your selected board basis will therefore shape whether lunch is part of the plan. The restaurant itself serves all three main meals, but no continuous snacking service or late dinner is specified, so do not assume that food will appear at any hour simply because the day has run long.

The Lobby Bar is the place for cocktails and a slower landing once the dinner decision has been made. Outside the property, La Pentola Trattoria and Craft Beer & Grill are only about 150 metres away, giving you an alternative when you fancy a change without committing to a taxi or a long walk.

The outdoor pool comes with sun loungers, giving you a second place to settle when the pebble beach has done enough for one day. The hotel also has a garden, sun terrace and terrace areas, so your non-diving companion can choose between water, shade and a book without needing to organise an expedition.

On the active side, bicycle rental and cycling are available, as are billiards and tennis facilities. Water sports on site include kayaking and paddleboarding, with equipment rental and boat excursions also available. Snorkelling gives you a way to look below the surface without committing to a full dive day; sometimes that is exactly the right amount of ambition.

Families have a kids’ club, children’s activities, a children’s menu, an indoor play area and a games room. For adults travelling without children, the practical appeal is simply that the hotel offers enough ways to occupy a non-diving day without pretending that every hour needs a scheduled activity.

Pula Airport is about 27 miles away by road, with a journey of roughly 51 minutes. Rijeka Airport is farther, at about 56 miles by road and around 1 hour 24 minutes. An airport shuttle is available and can be arranged with the hotel, either privately or as a shared service depending on the option offered for your stay. Car hire is also available.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 20:00 and check-out from 07:00 to 10:00. The reception is open around the clock, and luggage storage is available for the awkward gap between leaving the room and leaving Rabac. Public parking is available on site, and the property also offers laundry and ironing services.
