Diving in Elba

Located in Procchio, Diving in Elba has been a fixture of the local diving community for more than two decades. The centre operates across several sites, including Portoferraio and Biodola, providing a solid base for exploring the waters surrounding the island.

From the sheltered reef flats to the more exposed waters of Capraia and Pianosa, the centre covers a diverse range of marine environments. Whether you are looking for a relaxed holiday or structured professional training, the setup is designed to accommodate different levels of experience and ambition.

The team is comprised of 13 professional instructors and Divemasters, many of whom hold high-level SSI qualifications. You will find specialists on site including XR Instructor Trainers, Freediving Instructor Trainers, and TXR Instructors, ensuring that advanced technical and apnea training is handled by experts.

Instruction is delivered in Italian, English, and French. The guides are also certified by the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, which adds a layer of local ecological expertise to every excursion.

Beyond recreational diving, the centre runs a dedicated school for children and manages professional pathways for those looking to progress toward becoming an SSI Scuba Instructor or Instructor Trainer. They also maintain a strong environmental ethos, actively participating in conservation projects and operating with a plastic-free approach.

The course catalogue is extensive, covering the full spectrum of SSI certifications. Beginners can start with Open Water Diver training, while more experienced divers can progress through Advanced and specialty recreational courses.

For those looking to move into technical diving, the centre offers Extended Range and Sidemount courses, alongside training for XR Instructors. Freediving is also a core part of their teaching, with programmes ranging from Basic Freediver to Advanced Freediver and Freediving Instructor Trainer levels.

The centre provides access to digital theory materials for all underwater courses through SSI membership. For those travelling without their own kit, a range of equipment is available for hire to ensure you are fully equipped for your dives.

On-site facilities are designed to support both training and exploration, providing a professional environment for preparing for trips to the surrounding islands.

The waters around Elba are home to a variety of large marine life. You can regularly observe groupers, moray eels, and large octopus during your dives, alongside the presence of great barracuda.

For those interested in the smaller details of the reef, the area offers plenty of macro life to discover, including various species of octopus hiding in the crevices of the seabed.
