Hotel Pino

Sea air, a village square, and the practical comfort of a recently renovated room: Hotel Pino is made for a stay where the day unfolds outdoors and the evening does not require a taxi. The hotel sits in a fishing village near Lerici, with the beach, restaurants, cafés and ice-cream parlours close at hand.

The hotel team speaks Italian, English, German and French, so you can ask about the useful things in the language that suits you. Rooms are non-smoking, WiFi is available throughout the hotel, and the setting works particularly well for couples who want the coast within walking distance rather than another anonymous building beside a main road.

There are 60 rooms, a garden and an outdoor swimming pool with sun loungers and parasols. The atmosphere is straightforward: swim, walk, eat, sit down for a while. Not every evening needs an organised activity; sometimes a chair in the shade and a cold drink do the job.

Hotel Pino is in Lerici, Italy, on Via Vittorio Veneto in the seaside area of San Terenzo. The sea is about 0.03 miles away, and Spiaggia di San Terenzo is roughly 50 metres from the hotel on foot. Golden sand, sun loungers and parasols are part of the beach setting.

Lerici town centre is about a five-minute walk away, while the hotel is around 1.2 miles north of Lerici itself. That places you close to everyday cafés and restaurants without putting you in the middle of a large resort complex. Three restaurants, including Osteria la Situa, C'Era una Volta and La Palmira, are around 50 feet away, which is convenient when your legs have had enough for the day.

La Spezia is about a ten-minute drive away. For a wider outing, boats to Cinque Terre National Park leave from a pier around a ten-minute walk from the hotel. Pisa International Airport is roughly 44 miles away by road, and Genoa Airport is about 43 miles from the hotel.

The rooms were renovated in 2023, with parquet or laminate flooring, air conditioning and a private bathroom with shower, bidet, hairdryer and complimentary toiletries. A minibar and refrigerator give you somewhere to keep water cold, while the wardrobe, desk and bedside socket cover the unglamorous details that become surprisingly important once you are tired.

For two, the double rooms keep things simple with a large bed. The sea-view versions are the ones to consider if waking up to the Ligurian coast matters more to you than having extra floor space. Some rooms have balconies overlooking the sea, so check the room description carefully if that is part of your plan rather than treating every “sea view” label as identical.

The triple room uses a large bed and a sofa bed, making it the practical choice for three guests, although there are no extra beds. Children of any age are welcome, with cots available for younger children on request. Air conditioning will be useful in warmer weather, and heating is available for cooler nights. Upper floors are reached by stairs only.

Breakfast comes as a buffet from 7:30, with both continental and Italian options. It is the sort of start that lets you eat properly before heading out, rather than relying on a coffee and optimism. Half-board is available for guests who prefer to keep at least one main meal attached to the hotel.

Ristorante Pino serves breakfast, lunch and dinner in an air-conditioned indoor dining room. The kitchen works with local Ligurian dishes and fresh produce, so the evening meal has a clear regional identity rather than a generic international menu. Lunch is served from 12:30 to 14:30, and dinner from 19:30 to 22:00. The dress code is casual.

For the post-beach drink, Bar Pino is the hotel’s lobby bar, with cocktails, wine and non-alcoholic drinks. Room service runs during limited periods, from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 19:00 to 22:00. Vegetarian and gluten-free choices are available.

The outdoor pool is the obvious place for a quieter afternoon, with sun loungers and parasols around it. You can also walk the short distance to the golden-sand beach, where the sea is close enough for an unplanned swim. The garden adds another place to sit when you want a break from both water and conversation.

If you still have energy after breakfast or want a non-diving day, the hotel offers access to snorkelling, kayaking, paddleboarding and boat excursions, with equipment hire available. Cycling and walking are also part of the programme, while excursions to Cinque Terre and Portovenere give you a reason to put on something other than sandals.

For a cultural change of pace, temporary art galleries are available nearby, and La Spezia brings museums, parks and historic sites within reach. Castello San Giorgio and the Amedeo Lia Museum are both about four miles away. Families have access to babysitting and a children’s menu, while the pool remains suitable for general use rather than being reserved for adults.

Check-in runs from 14:00 to 20:00, and you need to give the hotel your expected arrival time. A photo ID and a credit card are required at check-in. If you arrive outside reception hours, the arrangement needs to be made in advance; this is worth dealing with before setting off, particularly if your journey reaches Lerici late in the evening.

Check-out is from 08:00 to 10:00. Luggage storage, daily housekeeping and a wake-up service are available, and a reception safe, concierge and doctor on request cover a few useful practicalities. Car hire and laundry services are also available. The hotel accepts cash, Visa and Mastercard.
