Palm Village

Palm Village is an aparthotel-style resort for divers who do not need every evening to follow the same script. You can cool down by the pool, eat on a terrace, walk into Villasimius for a traditional restaurant, or retreat to a studio with its own dining area and kitchenette. That is a practical arrangement when your day has involved salt water, sun and rather more exertion than planned.

The hotel team speaks English, Italian, German and French, so you can deal with the useful things in a language you are comfortable with. The property also suits couples and families, with a kids' club for children aged 4 to 12, children's activities and a playground. In high season, musical evenings and shows add some life after dinner, although quiet hours run from 22:00 to 09:00.

You are in Villasimius, Sardinia, on Via Sardegna, with the town centre about a ten-minute walk away. That puts traditional restaurants within easy reach rather than leaving you dependent on the resort every night. Ristorante Pizzeria su Forreddu is about 500 metres away on foot, while Sardigna Street Food is roughly 600 metres away. For a sit-down meal closer to the water, Simius Playa is about 850 metres away.

Palm Village is described as sea-front, while its private beach is about 900 metres from the property. It is a 200-metre stretch of golden sand with loungers, parasols and a beach bar, open from 1 June to 30 September. Simius Beach is about 700 metres away, Spiaggia di Is Traias about 1 kilometre, and Porto Giunco Beach about 1.5 kilometres. Cagliari Elmas Airport is around 60 km away by road, so the transfer is part of the arrival plan rather than a minor detail.

The studios are the reason to look here rather than at a conventional hotel room. Every unit has a kitchenette with a fridge, stovetop, coffee machine, kitchenware and dining table, plus a seating area. You can keep cold water ready for your return, make coffee without waiting for breakfast and put together something simple when a full restaurant meal is not what your body is asking for. There is also a balcony, a private entrance and views that may look towards the garden, pool or inner courtyard, depending on the accommodation.

For two, the studio with the large bed keeps things straightforward. Travelling with three or four adults means using sofa beds, so it is a more functional arrangement than a spacious family suite; choose it for flexibility, not for ballroom dancing. Family rooms are available, and lifts serve the upper floors. The private bathroom includes a shower or bath, towels, a hairdryer and a bidet.

Air conditioning matters in Sardinia, particularly when you are trying to sleep after a warm day outdoors. The rooms also have a wardrobe, clothes rack and drying rack for ordinary clothing, while tiled floors make the place easy to live with when sand inevitably follows you indoors. WiFi is free throughout the hotel, and a flat-screen TV with cable channels is there for the evenings when the only excursion required is from bed to balcony.

Breakfast is a buffet served from 07:30 to 10:00, with half-board available for the stay. That gives you a reliable start before heading out, while the later meal can be handled on site or in town. Room service is available on request, and vegetarian and gluten-free options are catered for.

Il Miraggio is the main restaurant, serving Mediterranean cooking for breakfast, lunch and dinner on a sea-view terrace with a relaxed dress code. La Terrazza works differently: it is an à la carte restaurant focused on local specialities, open for lunch and dinner. Two terraces, two distinct reasons to sit down. You can keep one evening local and the next one more broadly Mediterranean without turning the menu into a guessing game.

There are two bars. The Pool Bar sits beside the swimming pool and specialises in cocktails, while the American Bar occupies the lobby for a more conventional drink away from the water. Snacks are available at the snack bar, and the property also has an on-site coffee house. In other words, you can go from pool to coffee to dinner without making a full expedition of it.

The main outdoor pause is the large, unheated swimming pool, with an integrated bar, sun loungers and parasols. It is the obvious place to spend a surface interval without pretending that every hour away from diving needs a programme. Garden, patio and terrace areas provide more room to sit outside, while table tennis offers a modest challenge for anyone still convinced their coordination survived the morning.

The 150-square-metre Wellness Center is the more convincing recovery option. Treatments include massages and facials, with a sauna and jacuzzi for the parts of the day when your muscles have submitted a formal complaint. There is also a gym and yoga classes, useful if you prefer a gentle stretch to another cocktail.

On the water, you can try snorkelling, kayaking and paddleboarding, or join a boat excursion. On land, cycling, hiking and cultural excursions are available, including trips to Cagliari and Costa Rei. Golf is listed within 3 kilometres, while the 725-metre summit of Monte Minniminni is about 9 km away. Families have a kids' club, children's pool, menu and babysitting, so travelling with children does not have to mean abandoning the idea of sitting down for ten consecutive minutes.

Cagliari Elmas Airport is about 60 km from Palm Village. An airport shuttle is available through the property, in private or shared form depending on the arrangement, and should be booked with the hotel. Car hire is also available. Free public parking is nearby, although spaces cannot be reserved.

Check-in runs from 16:00 to 20:00 and check-out from 09:00 to 10:00. If you arrive outside reception hours, which run from 09:00 to 20:00, contact the property in advance and give your expected arrival time. Photo identification and a payment card are required at check-in, and the minimum check-in age is 18.

Luggage storage, express check-in and check-out, a reception safe, concierge service, laundry and dry-cleaning facilities are available. WiFi is free throughout the hotel. Smoking is not allowed, and quiet hours are observed overnight from 22:00 to 09:00. Beach towels are provided for stays of at least seven nights.
