Ocean Voyager operates within the heart of the Whitsundays, offering a variety of sailing and diving experiences designed to navigate the diverse ecosystems of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. The centre offers fundamental training for those looking to start their underwater journey, including Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver certifications. These courses provide the essential skills required to explore the reefs and lagoons of the Whitsundays safely.

The reefs are home to a vast array of marine life, including various species of sea turtles such as Green sea turtles, Hawksbill turtles, and Loggerhead sea turtles. You will frequently encounter large populations of tropical fish, including parrotfish, angelfish, butterflyfish, and various fusiliers.

For those interested in larger pelagics and reef residents, the area hosts reef sharks (including both blacktip and whitetip varieties), wobbegongs, and spotted eagle rays. You may also encounter hammerhead sharks, tuna, mackerel, and large barracuda in the more open sections of the reef.

The reef architecture is built upon a foundation of hard and soft corals, giant clams, and various anemones. Look for gorgonians and sponges decorating the structures, alongside a variety of molluscs and sea slugs.

Macro enthusiasts should look for nudibranchs, octopuses, and various species of squid. The sandy areas and reef edges also provide habitats for moray eels, stingrays, and smaller crustaceans.

The best time to visit the Whitsundays is between June and October, during the dry season when the waters are generally calm and clear. During this period, you can expect visibility to range between 20 and 30 metres.

It is important to be aware of the jellyfish season from November to May, when more dangerous species like box jellyfish and Irukandji may be present. Currents in the area are typically calm within protected bays, but can become strong at sites like The Woodpile or Dolphin Point when winds are high.
