The Bligh Waters are home to a wide array of pelagic and reef species. You can expect to encounter various species of sea turtles and reef sharks patrolling the walls, alongside large schools of barracuda and jacks. The reef structure itself is vibrant, covered in hard corals and soft corals such as sea fans and sea whips. These corals provide the essential habitat for a constant stream of tropical fish and anemones.

For macro enthusiasts, the area offers plenty of detail to observe. You will find a variety of nudibranchs, pipefish, and octopuses tucked into the reef crevices, alongside smaller creatures like various macro fish and crustaceans.

The region is characterised by strong currents, which are a key driver of the local ecosystem. These nutrient-rich waters support the extensive coral growth and the large populations of fish found throughout the Bligh Waters.

The best time to visit is during the dry season from May to October, when the waters are generally calmer and visibility is at its best, typically ranging between 20 and 25 metres. During the wetter months from November to April, increased plankton levels can be expected in the water column.
