Abyss Nouméa

Abyss Nouméa has been operating in New Caledonia since 2003, providing a gateway to the rich marine ecosystems of the South Lagoon. Based at the Marina Port du Sud in Nouméa, the centre is positioned to take you directly to the diverse habitats that define this part of the Pacific.

The diving here covers a wide spectrum of environments, from the sheltered waters of the reef flats to more exposed sites. The centre organises excursions that span from the Dumbéa pass all the way to the Amédée lighthouse, ensuring a variety of topography for every level of experience.

Founded by Lionel and Denis, the centre operates with a focus on both recreational exploration and formal certification. They are affiliated with SSI, providing a structured pathway for divers looking to progress through their training.

In addition to SSI, the centre offers training under the ANMP framework, catering to divers who follow these specific standards. The team is experienced in managing both guided groups for those requiring supervision and autonomous outings for certified divers.

The training programme is extensive, covering everything from initial entry-level courses to advanced professional levels. For beginners, they offer the SSI Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver courses, as well as the ANMP Niveau 1.

Experienced divers can progress through SSI Specialty Diver, Advanced Diver, and Master Diver certifications. The centre also provides ANMP training up to Niveau 3, alongside specific modules such as the ANMP PE 40. For those needing a refresher, competency check dives are available to ensure you are ready for the local conditions.

For those not travelling with their own kit, the centre provides a full range of rental equipment including BCDs, regulators, wetsuits, dive computers, fins, masks, and weights.

If you prefer to bring your own equipment, the centre is conveniently located at the Marina Port du Sud, making it easy to access the boats. You can also find information and make reservations at the Sea Sport shop in Anse Vata.

The South Lagoon is a highly productive environment where you can regularly encounter large pelagics. It is common to see sea turtles, manta rays, and various species of sharks patrolling the reefs and passes.

The biodiversity of the area is supported by a healthy coral ecosystem. You will find a wide array of marine life inhabiting the various sites, from the shallow reef flats to the deeper structures of the passes.

Macro life and smaller inhabitants are also present throughout the twenty different dive sites, providing plenty of interest for divers who enjoy searching the reef for more subtle encounters.

Diving in the area is subject to local weather conditions, with special excursions to sites like the Aiguille de Prony or the Grande passe de Uitoé scheduled based on the sea state. The centre monitors these conditions to ensure safe passage to the more exposed sites.
