Hideaway Island Dive

Hideaway Island Dive is situated in Efate, Vanuatu, providing a base for divers to explore the archipelago's underwater landscapes. The centre is positioned to allow access to the local reef systems that define this part of the Pacific.

The local reefs are home to a variety of reef fish and larger pelagic fish. You can encounter schools of fish, Batfish (Platax), Parrotfish (Calotomus), and Damselfish (Pomacentridae) moving across the reef top. Sea turtles (Cheloniidae) and Reef sharks (Carcharhinus) are also part of the regular marine life in these waters.

For those interested in the smaller inhabitants, the area offers plenty of macro life. Keep a sharp eye out for Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani), Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda), and various species of Shrimp (Caridea). You may also find Octopus (Octopus vulgaris), Garden eel (Gorgasia), and Pipefish amongst the crevices.

The seabed and reef structures provide a rich habitat for many invertebrates and specialised fish. Leaf scorpionfish and crocodilefish often blend into the surroundings, while Goby (Gobiidae) and Tentacled flathead (Papilloculiceps longiceps) inhabit the sandy patches. Moray eel (Muraenidae) and Spiny lobster (Palinuridae) are frequently found near the reef edges.

The underwater scenery is defined by healthy coral growth, including Soft coral (Alcyonacea) and various gorgonian sea fans. Giant pink anemones host clownfishes and anemonefish, creating vibrant pockets of life across the reef flat and walls.
