Rocklands Beach is about 300 metres away, or roughly a four-minute walk. Milton Beach is around 550 metres away, while Three Anchor Bay Beach is about half a mile from the hotel. The V&A Waterfront and Cape Town city centre are about a ten-minute drive away, so dinner, museums and harbour wandering remain practical rather than theoretical.

You can also reach Bellevue Road Park in about half a mile, Signal Hill in around 1.3 miles and Lion's Head in roughly 3 miles. The Two Oceans Aquarium is about 2.5 miles away, while the Cape Town International Airport is around 13 miles by road.

The room choice is mainly about how much space and outlook you want once the wetsuit is hung up and the day's salt has been dealt with. The Junior Suite with Sea View is the obvious choice if the Atlantic matters to you; several other rooms and suites look towards the sea or mountains, while some face the Italian piazza-style courtyard instead. The Family Suite gives four guests room to spread out, and the Junior Suite works for up to three.

Shoreditch Restaurant handles breakfast, lunch and dinner from early morning until late evening. You can eat indoors or on the terrace, depending on whether you want shelter or a little more air with the meal.

The pool and courtyard are made for the low-energy part of the day: sit down, cool off and allow your shoulders to remember that they are not permanently carrying a cylinder.
