Scuba Star

Located in Wilton Manors, Scuba Star serves as a central hub for divers exploring the South Florida coastline, including Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, and Dania Beach. The centre operates with a focus on community and personalised coaching, ensuring that training is conducted thoroughly rather than rushed.

To access the local marine environments, the centre partners with Delta’s Splash, which operates out of the Dania Beach Marina. This allows you to transition easily from your training or gear preparation to the boat for trips to the region's vibrant coral reefs and sunken wrecks.

The centre is led by Dan and Robin, who bring a dedicated approach to the local diving community. Dan is a PADI Master Scuba Diver instructor with nearly 15 years of professional experience, holding additional certifications with SDI, SSI, and AVELO. Robin is currently working towards her Divemaster certification.

As a PADI 5-Star Dive Centre, Scuba Star maintains high standards for safety and training quality. The team emphasises small class sizes, which allows for more individual attention during in-water sessions. The centre is also an LGBTQ+ friendly environment, welcoming divers from all backgrounds.

The centre offers a comprehensive catalogue of PADI courses, catering to everyone from those taking their first breaths underwater to professional candidates. Beginners can start with the Open Water Diver course, which includes pool sessions and boat diving. Advanced training options include the AOWD, Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, and Drift Diver specialties.

For those looking to refine their skills or move into professional roles, Scuba Star provides Peak Performance Buoyancy, Rescue Diver, and Divemaster training. They also offer a wide array of specialty certifications such as Underwater Navigation, Night Diver, Cavern Diver, and Full Face Mask Diver, alongside conservation-focused programmes like Coral Reef Conservation and AWARE Shark Conservation.

Dive trips are conducted via their partner, Delta’s Splash, which is conveniently docked at Dania Beach Marina. This partnership provides access to the diverse underwater landscapes of South Florida, ranging from reef systems to wreck sites.

Scuba Star provides a full range of rental equipment for those who do not wish to carry their own kit. They stock high-quality brands including Zeagle, Atomic Aquatics, XS Scuba, Bare, Oceanic, and Hollis, as well as Garmin and Shearwater for dive computers.

For local divers, the centre offers cylinder services including air fills. While they do not currently offer Nitrox fills, the staff can advise on local options for those requiring enriched air.

The waters around South Florida are home to a variety of large pelagics and familiar reef species. You can expect to encounter sharks, great barracuda, and stingrays patrolling the area, alongside green moray eels and lobsters.

On the reef, you will find a diverse array of fish species, including various unique fish that inhabit the local ecosystem. The presence of jellyfish is also common during your dives.

In terms of macro life and smaller inhabitants, the area supports a variety of interesting creatures, though specific seasonal sightings are not detailed for these species.

The local diving environment is characterised by visibility that can range from 20 to 100 metres. Divers should be prepared for various conditions when exploring the reefs and wrecks of the South Florida coast.
