The Kyalami Scuba Club

The Kyalami Scuba Club has been a fixture of the West Palm Beach diving community since 1972. Situated with its shop on Northlake Boulevard and its dive operations at the Riviera Beach Marina, the club offers a seamless transition from the retail floor to the water.

This is a centre built on long-term expertise, catering to divers who want to explore the diverse underwater topography of the Florida coast. From the shallow reef flats to the deeper wrecks influenced by the Gulf Stream, the operation is designed to handle everything from introductory dives to specialised marine life encounters.

The team is composed of expert instructors and divemasters who manage a maximum ratio of six divers per guide. This ensures that whether you are working on a certification or exploring a new wreck, you have the necessary professional oversight for a safe and controlled dive.

Beyond training, the centre is deeply committed to marine conservation. They regularly organise reef clean-up events and host educational sessions featuring experts on shark and sea turtle conservation, making it a hub for divers who want to engage with the local ecosystem.

The training programme covers the full spectrum of PADI certifications. You can begin with your Open Water Diver course and progress through to the PADI Master Scuba Diver rating.

Specialised training is a core part of their curriculum, including the PADI Goliath Grouper Specialty. They also offer various other specialty courses designed to refine your skills in specific environments or with particular marine life.

The Kyalami Too is a custom-built, USCG certified dive boat that serves as the centre's primary platform for offshore excursions. It is configured to handle the specific requirements of the local waters, including the drift dives common to the area.

Nitrox is available for use on board, allowing for extended bottom times on deeper sites. The boat operates with two scheduled departures, typically at 8 AM and 1 PM, covering a variety of reef and wreck destinations.

The centre operates a full-service Scubapro Platinum dealership, meaning you have access to a high-end range of equipment and factory-trained technicians for on-site repairs. The shop is located on Northlake Boulevard and is open daily.

For those travelling without their own kit, a full range of rental equipment is available, including regulators, BCDs, wetsuits, fins, masks, and snorkels. Nitrox is provided on-site to support decompression modelling for advanced divers.

The local waters are home to a variety of large pelagics. During January and February, you can encounter lemon sharks, while the months of August and September are the best time to see Goliath Grouper at their aggregation sites.

In the reef environments, you will regularly find snapper, lobster, and lionfish. Hawksbill turtles are also known to frequent these waters, adding to the biodiversity of the local reefs.

For macro enthusiasts, the Blue Heron Bridge area provides excellent opportunities to find nudibranchs. The surrounding ecosystems also support a range of smaller life, including various crustaceans and reef-dwelling species.

Diving in this region is heavily influenced by the Gulf Stream, which creates regular drift diving conditions. Divers should be comfortable with moderate currents when planning trips to the Palm Beach reefs.

Visibility is generally excellent, frequently ranging between 20 and 30 metres, providing clear sightlines for both wreck and reef exploration.
