Diver's Cove

Situated in Carvoeiro, just 50 km west of Faro, Diver's Cove has been a staple of the Algarve diving scene since 1992. As the first PADI centre established in southern Portugal, they have spent over three decades navigating the local waters and refining their approach to dive instruction.

The centre is conveniently located directly in front of the Quinta do Paraíso hotel reception area. This position allows you to transition easily from your accommodation to the dive shop, making the logistics of your trip straightforward and efficient.

Managed by Janina Mahler, the team maintains a professional yet family-oriented atmosphere. The centre is staffed by three instructors, ensuring a focused environment for both children and experienced divers. They place a strong emphasis on continuous education and environmental conservation through the Project Aware and AWARE Coral Reef Conservation programmes.

The team is highly multilingual, with staff able to communicate in English, German, Portuguese, Spanish, and Dutch. This ensures that regardless of your primary language, you can focus entirely on your buoyancy or your certification objectives.

Diver's Cove offers a comprehensive curriculum of PADI courses, ranging from initial certifications to advanced instructor-level training. You can work through the standard progression from Open Water to Advanced Open Water, or move into technical and specialised areas.

Specialities available include Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Night Diver, and Peak Performance Buoyancy. For those looking to master their skills or protect the environment, they offer Digital Underwater Photography, Rescue Diver, and AWARE Coral Reef Conservation.

The centre operates both small boats and a large boat, the Via Sagres, for trips to local sites. Depending on your itinerary, you may find yourself on a vessel configured for day trips or more extensive excursions.

On full-day trips, the centre provides a traditional lunch featuring Piri Piri chicken on board. For those not diving, the boats offer space to relax while enjoying the coastal scenery.

The centre is equipped to support a wide range of diving needs, from basic entry-level training to advanced specialties. For those starting their journey, the centre utilises hotel swimming pools for initial training sessions.

Nitrox is available on-site, allowing you to extend your no-decompression limits during your dives. This is particularly useful when exploring the deeper wrecks or planning multiple dives in a single day.

The waters around the Algarve are home to diverse marine life, including various species of fish and crustaceans. You can expect to encounter schools of fish and various reef inhabitants throughout your dives.

For those interested in macro life, the area offers sightings of Octopus (Octopoda), Cuttlefish (Sepiidae), and various Nudibranch (Chromodoris willani). You may also find Seahorse (Hippocampus), Scorpionfish (Scorpaenidae), and Moray eel (Muraenidae) amongst the rocks and crevices.

Larger species include Lobster (Homaridae) and Crab (Brachyura), alongside common residents like Sea bass, Sea bream (Sparidae), and Barracuda (Sphyraena).

The area features a variety of underwater landscapes, from shallow reef flats to deeper wreck sites. Divers should be prepared for different environments, ranging from rock formations to deeper wrecks.
