Rocamar Exclusive Hotel & Spa suits couples and divers who want the practical end of the day handled without turning the hotel into a resort village: a room with air conditioning, a restaurant with sea views, a pool, and a spa for the muscles that have done their shift.

English, Portuguese, German and French are spoken by the hotel team, so you can deal with the useful details in English from the outset. The atmosphere is geared towards adults, with no children under 16 and no children’s facilities to work around. That leaves you with the beach, the old town and the bar — all much more relevant once the kit bag has been put away.

You are in Albufeira, Portugal, on the seafront by Praia dos Pescadores. The hotel is also close to Peneco Beach, around 300 metres away on foot, while Inatel Beach is roughly 1 km away. Golden sand, sun loungers and parasols are available at the beach reached on foot from the hotel, so a swim does not require a logistical operation.

Albufeira’s centre starts around 300 metres away, bringing bars, shops and restaurants within an easy walk. The old town gives you the Clock Tower, the Municipal Museum of Archaeology, the old castle wall traces and Albufeira Old Town Square nearby. Fishermen’s Square is about 1 km away, and Parque da Alfarrobeira is around 2 km from the hotel when you want a little more greenery than paving and cafés.

Faro Airport is about 24 miles away by road. Portimão Airport is roughly 23 miles away by road, and the hotel can arrange an airport shuttle.

The room choice is mainly about how much of the Atlantic you want to buy into with your view. Sea-view twin rooms give you the outward-looking version, while the land-view rooms keep things more straightforward. For two people travelling together, the twin-bed layout is useful when sharing a room does not mean sharing a mattress. The Junior Deluxe Suite is the room to look at when a little more elbow room and a private bathroom matter more than keeping things compact.

Several rooms have a balcony or terrace, which gives you somewhere to sit with the first coffee or the last drink without going straight back into the public areas. Air conditioning matters here: the Algarve can be warm, and a cool room is a better recovery tool than heroic optimism. A refrigerator and coffee machine are also available, useful for cold water and an early cup before a boat departure.

The hotel has 62 rooms and was renovated in 2023. Rooms have private bathrooms, towels, linen, bath or shower facilities and, in some categories, a bathrobe. Daily housekeeping is provided, while towels are changed three times a week and sheets twice a week. Free Wi-Fi is available, and the 24-hour reception gives you somewhere to sort out a late arrival or leave luggage before heading to the beach.

Vista Mar is the main dining room, with international cooking served on a terrace overlooking the sea. Breakfast is a continental buffet, served from 07:30, and dinner is served in the evening. The standard board is half-board, so the hotel covers breakfast and dinner while Albufeira supplies plenty of alternatives when you fancy eating elsewhere.

The terrace is the useful detail here. You can sit outside with the sea in front of you rather than treating dinner as a refuelling stop in an anonymous room. Smart casual is the dress code, which means you can leave the full expedition wardrobe in the dive bag and still be properly dressed for the table.

There is one named bar, the Pool Bar, beside the outdoor pool, with cocktails and refreshing drinks. Room service is available on request, and a snack bar is also part of the hotel’s food and drink offer. For more choice, the surrounding streets put restaurants and bars within a few minutes’ walk, including Roca Beach Bar & Restaurante right by the hotel.

The outdoor pool is reserved for adults and sits alongside the sun terrace and Pool Bar. It is the obvious place for a low-effort afternoon: swim, find a lounger, order a drink and avoid pretending that every free hour needs a programme. The nearby beach gives you another easy option, with golden sand, sun loungers and parasols around 50 metres from the hotel.

Rocamar Spa handles the more deliberate recovery work, with massages, facial treatments, a sauna, a jacuzzi and a hot tub. The fitness centre and yoga sessions give you something more structured when sitting still has stopped being therapeutic. The spa closes on Sundays; from November to March it opens from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 17:00, while from April to October the afternoon session runs until 18:00.

Away from the hotel, the Algarve offers enough to occupy a non-diving day without forcing you into nightlife. Cycling, walking and cultural excursions are available, including trips to Lagos and to Sagres and Cape Saint Vincent. Kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkelling, boat excursions and equipment hire are also available in the wider activity offer.

Check-in runs from 14:00 until midnight, and check-out is by 11:00. You need photo identification and the card used for the reservation at arrival, and the hotel asks for your expected arrival time in advance. Reception is open around the clock, which is handy when flights and Algarve traffic refuse to respect neat plans.

The hotel can arrange an airport shuttle, and car hire is available. Free public parking is available nearby without a reservation, rather than in a private hotel car park. Luggage storage, a concierge service, laundry, dry cleaning and a reception safe are also available. Visa and Mastercard are accepted; cash is not.

This is an adults-only property with a minimum age of 16, and the minimum age for check-in is 18. Pets are not allowed, smoking is not permitted throughout, and parties or events are not allowed. A refundable damage deposit is collected by card on arrival, so keep the reservation card and identification to hand rather than burying them at the bottom of the suitcase.
