The volcanic reefs and pinnacles of Madeira are home to a diverse array of Atlantic life. You will regularly encounter large groupers, barracuda, rays, moray eels, and octopus. Schools of tuna, jack, and parrotfish are common sights along the reef walls and cleaning stations.

Macro life is abundant around the crevices and pinnacles, particularly at sites like T-REEF, where various species of shrimp are frequently seen cleaning larger fish. Divers should keep a sharp eye out for octopus and various species of moray eels tucked into the volcanic rock.

For those interested in larger animals, the waters around Madeira are a significant habitat for cetaceans. Depending on the time of year, you may encounter different species: Sperm whales are most likely to be seen between April and May, while Common dolphins are present from December to June. During the summer, as the waters warm, Atlantic spotted dolphins also become more frequent. Rare sightings of monk seals and various larger whales, such as Fin whales and Rorquals of Minke, add to the area's biological richness.

Diving in Madeira is best experienced between June and November. The Atlantic waters can vary in temperature, typically ranging between 18°C and 24°C. Visibility is generally good, reaching up to 30 metres in optimal conditions.
