Porto Santo Sub

Located on the island of Porto Santo, this dive centre has been a fixture of the local diving community since 2001. The centre operates year-round, providing access to the diverse underwater environments surrounding the island, from the reef flats to deeper offshore sites.

Whether you are visiting via the daily flights from Funchal or the ferry from Madeira, the centre is easily accessible. They provide a transfer service from your hotel to the base to ensure your dive days run smoothly.

The centre is a family-operated operation led by manager José Ricardo and supported by a specialised team. The staff includes marine biologists Emanuel de Almada and Ana Catarina Caria, alongside Leonardo Ricardo, which brings a strong scientific perspective to the local underwater knowledge.

With three instructors on hand, the team focuses on small-group dives and personalised guidance. The crew also includes skipper Alexandre Ricardo and guide Carlos Ricardo, ensuring a professional approach to both boat handling and underwater exploration.

As an SSI affiliated centre, they offer a complete progression of training. Beginners can start with Basic Diver, Scuba Diver, or Open Water Diver courses, with the option to bundle Nitrox training into their initial certification.

For more experienced divers, the curriculum extends into advanced specialties such as Deep Diver, Wreck Diver, Underwater Navigation, and Night Diver. The centre also provides professional training for those pursuing Divemaster or Dive Guide credentials.

Technical diving is a significant part of their offering, with courses covering Decompression Diving, Advanced Wreck Diving, and XR specialties including XR Nitrox and XR Extended Range Air/Limited Trimix. They are also equipped to teach rebreather diving, specifically for the Mares Horizon SCR and Mares Horizon SCR XR systems.

The centre operates two RIBs for all diving excursions. These vessels are equipped with oxygen on board for safety and are used for morning and afternoon dive trips, including night dives.

All dive trips include the boat, a guide, a weight belt, and a 12L cylinder. The RIBs allow for efficient movement between sites, making them ideal for exploring the local marine reserve.

Full equipment hire is available on-site for divers who prefer not to travel with their own kit. This includes wetsuits, fins, and masks, as well as more technical requirements like a computer and regulator sets.

For those looking for more advanced setups, the centre provides technical equipment including TEC wings with harnesses and technical regulator kits. They also offer 12L cylinders and S40 cylinders for various diving needs.
